Torva'Ir Organization in Kalin | World Anvil

Torva'Ir

The Torva'Ir (Or "Elven Empire") Was a continent spanning Empire founded by Sullia. It spanned the breadth of the continent and was made up of nearly countless towns and cities. The jewels of this empire were the Immortal Cities, massive cities founded during the formation of Torva'Ir by Elven Nobles. These would eventually become the Fallen Cities we know today.   The Torva'Ir is the longest spanning nation to exist on Kalin, having existed for over 2000 years until it fell to Civil War and weak leadership during the Fall of the Torva.   Due to its length of existence the Torva'Ir was many things. Under Sullia it was a just and peaceful land of cooperation. Under her successor it turned into an oppressive slave state. Under another an inclusive but tight-fisted empire. Towards the end it became many separate warring states. It's hard to talk about the Torva'Ir in sweeping generalizations.   The one constant throughout the Empire was the importance of Elves in its hierarchy. Even under Sullia Elves ruled above all. Though under Sullia it was as something approaching a parental concern for the younger races. Whereas under Abberon it was that of a master to his slaves.   The ruins of the Torva'Ir dot the landscape of Kalin to this day. And its ruined capital sits at the center of the continent. Many would-be adventurers die plundering the ruins for treasure and artifacts.

Structure

The organization changed over the centuries. But in the broad strokes the Empire was always ruled over by an Empress or Emperor. This person would have absolute control of the empire. It carried the name "Torva'Sul" meaning "Elven Empress/Emperor."   Beneath the Torva'Sul was the Torva'Asu (Elves on High), which was essentially a large council of Elven Nobles, Princes, and Princesses. They were usually in charge of large regions of the Empire and would advise the Emperor directly.   Beneath them was The Girel, or Council of Youngers. Throughout its entire existence it wielded no official power, and existed to bring the issues and worries of the non-Elven races to the attention of the Elves. During the reign of Sullia this body was listened to extensively, whereas underneath Abberon it was largely ignored and eventually disbanded.

Disbandment

The Torva'Ir fell during the Fall of the Torva to a massive civil war between the Wood Elves, High Elves, Drow and normal Elves. The war resulted in the ascendancy of Mortals and the rapid decline of the Elves. The Mortals took the majority of the Eternal Cities from their Elven masters (Or destroyed them), and Xune would coin the phrase "Fallen City" when referencing these new Mortal-Ran City-States.

Demography and Population

The entire population of Kalin at one point owed allegiance to the Torva'Ir. From the lowliest farmer on the Eastern Coast to the most powerful Lord. The population is hard to count exactly but it is thought to have been several times higher than the common day, at least during the Reign of Sullia.

Military

During its height the Army of the Torva'Ir was unparalleled. Younger Race auxiliaries would enhance the prowess of the already terrifying might of the shimmering host. The army was capable of conquering the whole of Kalin.   After The Great War the army was much diminished however, and a long drag downwards would only further diminish it until it splintered in the Fall of the Torva.

Technological Level

The magics of the Elves during the Golden Age and beyond were so astounding and absolute that many cannot truly appreciate it without either being there or scrying into the past. While technology has advanced since the time of the Torva'Ir it is theorized that magic has never been as, and never will be as, common and powerful as it was under the Torva'Ir.

Religion

From its founding the Torva'Ir was a nation that followed The Mantle.

Foreign Relations

Not much is known about the Foreign Relations of the Torva'Ir. It is known it had contact with the lands beyond Kalin, and in fact had colonies on far shores and other continents. Records of these relations were mostly lost with the Fall of Caledbar.
