Vadryk
Vadryk was a minor lord of House Malmor and a distant cousin of Queen Vensensa.
In 841 he was married to Princess Everyn of The Royal House of Kaevil, daughter to his cousin the Queen. It had been hoped, foolishly, by the Queen that marriage would help to settle the fiery nature of her daughter. It did not. Vadryk found himself very much in his new wife's shadow and though they made a workable marriage it was clear that neither was entirely the partner that either would have chosen if they had been free to do so.
They had two children. Maldyn was their daughter, and the finest daughter that Vadryk could have hoped for. Their son Parnan however had inherited everything of his mother that was troublesome and while she delighted in him and indulged his appetite for excitement and adventure, Vadryk tried in vain to educated Parnan in those things that would be needful when he inherited his father's role.
This was not to be. Parnan announced he had no interest in inheriting the estate or the title and departed for The Spice Lands to establish his own domain there, and he did not return.
Vadryk had to make a hard choice as he had no other male heir and he was contemplating naming his younger brother as successor to his title, but the surprising intervention of his daughter Maldyn, petitioning him to name her instead and break the tradition of the title passing only through the male line, made him reconsider. He did so declare and worked hard before his death to ensure that this innovation would go uncontested.
