Parnan
Son of Princess Everyn and Lord Vadryk.
Older brother to Maldyn
Unlike his sister, Parnan inherited his mother's fierceness and unwillingness to do what was expected of him. As the eldest son of Vadryk of House Malmor he was expected to cultivate a courtly aspect and in time inherit his father's estate. He showed no interest in this. In his youth he signed on for service on a warship of the Malmor fleet and won renown, and his captaincy, by both his grasp of naval tactics and his boldness in battle.
In time he led an expedition of exploration southward to The Spice Lands and burned the fleets of slavers plaguing some of the northern coast of that distant land. On his return to Malmor he declared his intention of moving to The Spice Lands permanently and establishing his own kingdom there. Unsurprisingly this was met with angry refusal by his father who reminded him of his duties to his own family and house. "Come fetch me back if you will, then," was Parnan's response.
Though Vadryk asked Everyn to plead with her son to remain and do his duty, she refused saying that "He is of the blood of kings and will never be content with any lesser throne. Better to be the king of savage and unsure lands than sit a lesser throne in the service of another."
Parnan indeed sailed south with three ships and loyal crews and did not return.
