Pengallen

A prominent large village/small town prior to the events of The Sundering   Pengallen stands at the eastern end of the Keveril Pass , connecting the heartland to Tyaldi via the King's Stair.   It is built on terraced steps up the side of a sloping mountain peak.  The villagers have fields of wheat and other crops on the terraces, and goats graze on the higher slopes.   There was once a silver mining industry, with mines in the higher reaches northeast of Pengallen, but these mines were played out by the late 700s.   The village is notable as the place where Aldemar I the first king of Kaevil prayed in a cave and received guidance to take up the crown. The shrine became a holy place to the The High Father and a temple was built to contain it - the Shrine of Humble Accession   Pilgrims from the kingdom's four corners used to come here to pray and Pengallen became a notable destination and landmark as a result.   Notable Features   Shrine of Humble Accession   The Pilgrim's Gate - a stone archway over the southern approach to Pengallen. It bears one engraved crown for every king who has come here to pray prior to their coronation.
