Marellan of Caervil, Queen of Kaevil

Marellan

Queen Marellan, second wife to Arthindon I was daughter of Duke Rathmund of House Caervil who hoped to gain greater influence over the The Royal House of Kaevil by the marriage.   She was noted as a great poet, and a writer of some renown and she was the first to attempt to translate and record elvish poems in Siwn into the language of the Norlander's. Many of these originals were told to her by the elf Aluddem who was, during the reign of Arthindon I an occasional visitor to the court of Sildern   Though her marriage to the king was arranged as a political advance by House Caervil there is no doubt that a considerable bond of love and loyalty grew between Marellan and her husband. Following his death in 716, Marellan fell into a decline.   In 717 the dowager-Queen departed from Sildern in secret.  She left behind a final poem, in Siwn, of great sadness and complexity which has been interpreted to mean that she intended to leave the woes of this world behind, and that if she did not return by the last day of the following  year she was to be considered as one dead.   She did not return.
