Haru

Ana Rivera (a.k.a. Haru)

Ana goes by "Haru" in her online profile, which she uses to publish all kind of stories (specially dark or bittersweet metaphors of life), read the stories of promising writers and carefully pick the next book she will buy (when she can afford it that is).   In real life, she serves drinks at night and alternates skateboarding and sleeping by day. It's a simple life with lots of complications, and she wouldn't want it any other way.

Personal history

Ana grew in a nice family, more or less wealthy, with only a few, very close members.   It wasn't easy to be the only one that would shamelessly snap at people for small things, but she managed. And then came the time to choose a career. After a childhood of answering "I dunno", and a couple of years saying "I'll see", the question of "What do you wanna do when you grow up?" was finally unavoidable.   Deep down, she had always known the answer: I don't really care.   She wanted to be free, and live each day as if it was the only one. Not the last one, the only one. She wanted to make her experiences a part of her, not a part of the past, and chase the dreams that were right in front of her, not those that may or may not be somewhere in the future.   And she didn't want to fight about it with her family every day.   So she left. She got a job and horrible rental room, and did whatever she wanted and could afford. She was ready to be miserable for a while and adjust to the limitations of a bad wage and zero support. It turned out that it wasn't that bad, but the adjustment process took a bit longer than expected.   It's been fun, though. Administrate her resources and fight the circumstances like a protagonist would, while she annoyed readers with the cruelty of a villain.   The readers weren't many, or new. She had been writing for strangers on the internet for almost 10 years now, almost as long as she had practice skateboard. Is just that those weren't games anymore. They were the priority.   Was that crazy?   She hoped so.

Employment

Haru works as a bartender in "The Iron" Bar.   She only took the job for the money but she likes it enough. It allows her to pay the rent and live the day, is fun sometimes and boringly challenging the rest of the time, and it doesn't interfere with the rest of her life. She knows that's better than most jobs in the city, and while it is the opposite of fulfilling, she never planed to find fulfillment at work.

Personality Characteristics

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Ana has learnt lots of skill she didn't really wanted, because she had to. But, not that she has them, why not have fun with them?   A few examples are:
  • Drinks blending
  • Balance several objects in her hands (and activities in her life)
  • Organizing stuff so it's easier to find it when needed
  • Reading people's mood
  • Stay awake over 24 hours straight without (evident) bad effects; of course, she needs to get that sleep back later.
  • Sleep like a rock for over 12 hours no matter the noise, light, etc.
  •   Other skills are just natural abilities and from those, there a few that she has build with love:
  • Construction of complex characters (specially villains)
  • Writing bittersweet endings and “fair fates for secondary characters”.
  • Skateboarding
  •   She left a lot of things behind (like playing the flute) because she was using the time for something else, but some things just won't work no matter how much she tries or how many times she practice. Some of those made her life difficult, including:
  • Math
  • Writing dialogue
  • Patience
  • Manners and kindness.
  • Relationships

    Nicknames & Petnames

Because they were introduced by Alan, Haru always knew Abigail's real name and didn't pay attention to her online alias, while Abigail was sure that Haru's was using her real name and will never get used to call her Ana.

    History

Haru liked Molly's blog. Molly was astonished by Haru's stories.   They had to talk at some point, but they were both surprised to find that it was very easy to chat with each other.   Writing together? Haru didn't see it coming, Molly can't believe that it came true.

    Motivation
Right now, her priority is writing that novel. Because the idea brings her joy as well as her writer friends and because she said she would.   She needs to do that without loosing track of the things she needs to survive, of course; and her general goal in life, to be happy, is always there.

    A glimpse from the future
This is how she looks from the outside:
It was already unusual to find young people in a library this day and age, but a girl with such looks—skateboard by her side and defiant air around her—was just plain weird. The shirt with only one sleeve, the short skirt, and the ragged leggings—all in black—contrasted starkly with the purple tennis shoes and those few green streaks in her sandy blond hair. It was enough to draw attention and trigger critics, even without the tattoos.   Very few of the bookworms passing by ignored the snake tattoo around her left arm and the big butterfly on her right shoulder. Nobody noticed how immersed she was in her book.
