Uprelan Islands

A cluster of islands between Jugrar and Sharos, the Uprelan Islands are special not because of their size or location, but because of their formation. Or, more specifically, because they weren't formed as islands, but were part of the mainland and broke away.
Aside from their formation, and because of it, the Uprelan Islands are home to biomes and lifeforms found nowhere else on Itorah. In this, it is similar to Earth's Madagascar, with its own endemic species.

Geography

The Uprelan Islands consist of one major island (Uprela, after which the archipelago is named) and several smaller islands, clustered around it. A tall mountain range is located on the entire eastern side of Uprela, formed by the plates still pushing against each other, but otherwise the islands are fairly flat, as they have no volcanic origin. Outside of the mountains, the islands are covered primarily by forests, consisting of their own endemic trees.

Climate

The Uprelan Islands have a fairly consistent climate over the entire archipelago, with the majority of them falling under the mild oceanic climate. The southern end can be considered a subpolar oceanic climate instead, and the far north humid subtropical. As a whole, however, this means the archipelago is temperate in climate, with no dry seasons; overal temperatures naturally vary depending on latitude.

Fauna & Flora

The Uprelan Islands are a special occasion in the world of Itorah. Not only do they house countless endemic species, found nowhere else in the world, but their early separation also means the islands are the only in the world where intelligent species only recently became residents. Indeed, their distance to the other continents has stopped humans and dragons both from traveling to Uprela for a long time.
