The Zeadoran Domain

Located in the southeastern parts of the continent of Brenaurus, the Zeadoran domain is a powerful empire that have managed to conquer the nigh inhospitable lands of the Zeadoran Wastes. Magic and innovation make this possible and allow them to grow many tropical plants that are not usually able to grow with such horrible soil quality and the toxic environment. They are unified by a fear of the Yraham and the human slaves they keep, especially considering their people used to be enslaved by colonizing imperials. The Zeadoran mastery of magic can be attributed to Residuum, a unique magical material that can only be found in mines within the wastes. Now they ready for war against the Yraham dynasty even as their culture and way of life continues to expand.

Structure

The Zeadoran domain is ruled by the Speaker of the Wastes, which is elected by the noble houses and rich individuals of the society. The nobles poll the people in their domains and then vote for the one that they decide on, although it is not unheard of for nobles to vote for their own interests instead of those of their people. The rich folk also have a say because they are able to funnel large amounts of money into the candidate they want, and the one with the most money can pay the nobles and thus usually wins. The speaker of the wastes rules for life or until they reach the age of 70 at which time they retire and endorse another candidate who they think should be their successor, then the high council and the noble houses can put forward their own nominations for speaker. The high council candidates are put forward by the Zeadoran people and then they are elected by the noble houses. The only livable areas of the domain are encircled in biodome spells which manage the climate and the environment of these areas. Each one of these is ruled by a noble house which has power over the people who live there. Their power is usually checked by the rich individuals of their demesne, but it is also checked by the masses that live there. These noble houses are usually in some sort of conflict in their perpetual power grab for more influence on the Speaker. The high council must ratify the decisions of the Speaker of the Wastes, unless its a time of war in which case the Speakers word is law and his decisions will be discussed after the war. The noble houses and their demesnes are house Salehi (Zeadora), house Razaie (Rahk), house Jassar (Jassaman), house Javah (Javahdif), house Solemani (Al Jaba), house Bahram (Yariz), house Amir (Tamorran), house Karihm(Saira) and house Keshavar (Samaji)

Culture

The Zeadorans are very individualist in nature, despite their slightly feudal structure. Their society is ripe for businessmen to market products and rise to the top, mainly due to the fact that the people think more as an individual than as a society. It is the job of the Speaker, to unite the people for important matters. Zeadorans accept that life is temporary and unfair, and that some people have better luck than others. A prime part of their culture is the acceptance of bad luck and death, while also trying to minimize its effects. Service to the country is revered but those who elect not to, in favor of their own financial interests are accepted as well. Religion is also an important part of their culture and everyone is expected to pray to Amadia for good harvests and thank her for the gift of the biodomes that clerics were able to divine by speaking with her.

Assets

The Zeadoran domain has little in the way of gold reserves, somewhere around 100,000 gp, but they do have about 16,000 soldiers and food stores enough to last for 5 years.

History

Hundreds of years ago, settlers from the southern empire settled in the Zeadoran wastes, hearing of the powerful magic residuum that could be mined here. This magic material was very useful both as an augmenter for long term spells and as a substitute for any type of spell components. The settlers were mainly rich, business owners and so they enslaved the native population. The Zeadoran tribesmen were held back technologically by the in hospitality of the land where they lived. The settlers put them to work in the residuum mines and for nearly a century, the tribesmen lived in harsh slavery and very poor mining conditions. The tribesmen realized they far outnumbered their masters and that they had grown complacent, thinking that the spirit of the tribesmen was broken. In but a week, the masters were captured and killed, the Zeadorans had control of their civilization once more. With help from the residuum that was mined here, the Zeadorans were able to work up some powerful spells to create bio domes around their settlements. These domes allowed the Zeadorans to grow crops and made their cities hospitable. For a long time, their capital city of Zeadora was the only true city of the Zeadorans but with the sundering of the world, and the rise of the Yraham on their northern border, the Zeadoran council decided to expedite settlement outside of their city. This allowed for the rise of other cities and the consolidation of the nation as a full on domain. Border clashes with the Yraham have expedited the development of a military in Zeadora and it is now a powerful force to be reckoned with.

Demography and Population

There is not an official measurement of the population numbers of Zeadora but 95% of the population is zeadoran with 4%being imperial and 1% being other ethnicities and races.

Territories

The Zeadoran domain controls land around the eastern part of the Zeadoran wastes and keep expanding westward. Their northern borders almost reach imperial land and their southern borders go almost all the way to the sand teeth. The zeadoran domain has refused to expand further south because they don't want to displace the native lizardfolk that live there.

Military

The zeadoran military is always in need of recruits so the government added extra financial benefits to service. Soldiers have all of their expenses paid for while deployed including equipment and training and have relatively high pay as well, starting at 1 gold per day. Families of the deceased get paid 6 months wage and should they need help, the local nobles are supposed to make sure they have what they need. Most soldiers start as recruits, but some go through the officers academy in Zeadora, which allows them to start at higher ranks than normal. It is usually difficult for standard soldiers to make it to the higher ranks. The ranks and unit sizes of the Zeadoran military are as follows. Privates, corporals and sergeants have variants for elite squads which have a slightly higher rank than their standard counterparts.
Private- Standard soldier
Corporal - A soldier who serves as second in command of their squad
Sergeant - A soldier in charge of a squadron of soldiers (6-8 soldiers)
Lieutenant - An officer in charge of a division (5 squads - 30-40 soldiers)
Colonel - An officer in charge of a platoon (4 divisions - 120-160 soldiers)
Major - An officer in charge of a brigade (6 platoons - 720-960 soldiers)
General - An officer in charge of an armada (5 brigades - 3600-4800 soldiers)   The Armadas of the Zeadoran domain are the Northguard armada, Wastemarch armada, Sandsnake armada, and Royal blades armada
The Zeadorans use a mix of medium infantry, heavy infantry, archers and cavalry for their military. Their infantry mostly consists of spears, sabres and shields. Their heavy infantry utilizes chainmail, halberds, bardiches, as well as some sabres and shields. Their archers are very elite and powerful, being renown around the world. They also specialize in elite rangers, archers who fight in the wastes and specialize in ambush. Their cavalry is renown for being fast and maneuverable, in the form of light cav but they also have heavy mamluk shock cav and cav archer soldiers that are very elite.

Religion

The Zeadorans worship Amadia  goddess of the harvest, Mordes  god of death, and the twin gods of fate Naeyir  and Shaeyir  Amadia is worshiped because it was her who initially came to the domains clerics and gave them the idea for the biodomes. They worship her for every harvest and every crop that they get in their magically regulated growing areas. Mordes is worshiped as a remnant of the days when they were a small tribal civilization with many fatalities. They worship mordes as the spirit of the wastes, the one who will eventually come to claim all souls. They worship him for every day he allows them to live and accept his gift when he eventually comes to claim them. They follow his teachings to respect the dead and hate the practice of necromancy with a fury. The twin gods of fate are worshiped as a sign of how life isn't always fair, but it's the job of the holy to accept that. The zeadoran church teaches that true enlightenment and happiness only come with the accepting of your fate in death and in your good or bad fate in life.

Foreign Relations

The zeadoran domain has always had rough relations with areas around the Brenaurus empire because they enslaved their people in the past. The only foreign empire that they have really polarizing relationships with are the Yraham dynasty, who they are at war with.

Agriculture & Industry

With the use of biodomes for agriculture and their settlements, the Zeadorans are able to grow large amounts of tropical crops. These include bananas, rice, cocoa, pineapples, coconuts, and tamarinds. They also use their more northern settlements to grow temperate foods such as potatoes and rice. The zeadorans raise livestock extensively, namely cattle, goats and horses. Zeadoran horses are among their biggest asset as they are sought out even on the other side of the continent. They are tall, fast, and renowned for their beauty.

Trade & Transport

The zeadorans used to trade with neighboring settlements but now, with the rise of the Yraham, they have to take the risky route west and northwards through Thahmirs real to reach Elesland and Werton where they trade their goods. Because of this, the Domain has become relatively self sufficient but the lack of trade has caused them to suffer greatly. Zeadoran mages are able to use magic to transport some of their traders past dynasty lands but this is unsustainable.

Education

4 years of education are required for everyone but after that its up to the parents to put them through more schooling. Schooling is sponsored by the government, with all the content shaped in a way to try and prepare people for the world, but also hold a favorable view of the domain and its government. Military schooling exists mostly in the form of the officers academy in Zeadora where they are taught discipline and the fundamentals of command and strategy. This is where most of the generals come from.
