The Still Lady Character in Iron Stars | World Anvil

The Still Lady

The Still Lady was an Eaten Goddess, and former ruler of Acastus. The Still Lady, like all Eaten Gods, derived power from worship. As the size of her cult grew, so did her metaphysical might. Three magisters were also appointed by the Lady, to help her lead her cult and together Ash City became their personal dominion.   A large onyx and gold pyramid occupied central Ash City, Acastus for many years and was the seat of her power over the world, and the millions of people who lived there. Those who did not become members of her cult were not killed, but rather literally branded as apostates and given more menial jobs to complete around the city.     The United Nations of Worlds fought a year long liberation campaign with local partisan allies to overthrow the Still Lady, culminating in Billy Rigers of the United Nations of Worlds firing the planetside breaker guns vertically, directly into her pyramid.   Others were lost along the way, such as Provost Desmond O'Shea, and the human form of Headmaster Regulus Fate. Sorties to Acastus during that year long war were almost always returning with fewer heroes than had departed.   With her physical essence destroyed, it was believed for a time that The Still Lady had been defeated forever.   It was revealed to Max Davenport, a Greystar Operative, that she had in fact retreated in a severely weakened state to the planet Rana, in the middle of the L-gate region. She continued to direct her followers against The Weeping Company and The Scions of the Storm, slowly regaining strength and new converts. In time, she was able to harness the energies of the Conjunction to incarnate directly, into a human form. She would not be defeated , and could not be contained unless a daring raid against a research facility of hers was successful, and a team managed to secure an item known as a Soul Donjon to bind her after a daring raid.    Several retaliatory assaults against real space were thwarted by Polity forces across the galaxy before a combined fleet of Greystar Confederation. Communist Brotherhood, New Moon Cooperative, Elysium Protectorate, and United Nations of Worlds forces were able to locate a metaspace tracker and breached the L-sector to assault her home planet of Rana.    No one is sure what happened during the conflict that took place at the apex of her sanctum on the shadow infested planet, but the urn with the ashes of Herald Daitrij, and a broken combat helmet worn by agent Linya Tychos were carried out by Hailey Clements, Eisheru Tidecaller, and Venser Reach. None of them have spoken about what happened during the conflict but each emerged with horrendous wounds.    The spiritual essence of the broken Still Lady was confined into a psionic device known as a Soul Donjon, where she cannot escape unless it is destroyed. It is unknown what became of it once the Psychic Academy took possession of the relic.
