New Moon Cooperative

Polity History

The New Moon Cooperative was a powerful arm of the former Tenebrian Empire that rose to become its own independent power block after the events of The Scream when it was clear former galactic authorities were gone. The Cooperative had always been something of a country within a country. Authorities kept their heads out of internal affairs so long as taxes were paid and requisitions of men and fighting ships were met-as at that time the Tenebrian-Black Sun war had been brewing for some time.    For many the only real change after The Scream was the lowering of one flag and the raising of another. Nobles and other powerful appointed members of the government had ruled in some capacity or another and had always kept a steady and somewhat oppressive hand on the crank of society.    This inefficient and self promoting government style continued into the Shaper crisis where the fleshshaper warhost emerged and destroyed many of the polity planets before a combined naval action defeated them at Bennavides, and began to turn the tide. Rather than sending soldiers and ships for the common defense, most nobles chose to use their forces to piecemeal protect holdings and hoards of riches rather than inhabited worlds or the actual people of the Cooperative. Anti noble sentiment began to stir and came to a head shortly after victory over the Shaper Warhost had been proclaimed.

The Cooperative Today

These colonial citizens and their glorious solar sailed ships resembling the Age of Sail once controlled nearly all the habitable planets in the galactic northeast. Bearing the brunt of the eastern Shaper front by themselves has seem them reduced to a shell of their former strength- the lords of what is once again an impressive stretch of territory.   They desire a cooperative and peaceful galaxy though recognize the fact that this vision can only be realized with the wealth and military power to back that dream. Their relations with their neighbors are nominally friendly, as the UNW, Greystar Confederacy, and CBSS all assisted them in driving the shapers back from their last clutch of worlds. The decision to include themselves into The Iron Stars Federation was a popular one and was seen as simply a formalizing of alliances forged during the Shaper crisis.    The Cooperative homeworld is the planet Jagrati, and from here they seek to re-assert their dominance over the Iron Stars sectors.    In August 2668, the polity notables concluded Operation Noble Sweep where 95% of the existing noble houses and their related offices of authority were swept and arrested in a coordinated and largely bloodless operation as political punishment for their abandonment of large swathes of territory and people to the Shaper Host.   King Deveers and those who remained were quick to agree to the formation of a Constitutional Monarchy, with an assembly made up of the common man. Thus far, his reforms have been met with enthusiasm from all strata of society. Despite this rising tide of political goodwill, Deveers was poisoned by a cell of Noble sympathizers, and upon learning his fate quickly made former chief of his Huscarls , a man named Max Buchannon the next in line for the throne.    With much of their western frontier reduced to life stripped balls of rock and dust, the Cooperative looks to find new worlds to inhabit, salvage what they can from the ruins of their former territories, and strives to reach the heights of progress they once had.
