Ameril
Ameril is located in the eastern Enrynnia with the The Yushan Empire to the south and the Mooncrest Ocean to the east. Its western boundary is marked by the mountain ranges known as the Endless Rise and the northern boundary is shared by the Mistborn Sea, Shivering Peaks, Terrorstalks and the Whisperwoods.
Demographics
Predominantly composed of Humans, less than 1% of the civilised population come from other races, with the bulk of these considered visitors rather than immigrants.
Government
A Feudal Monarchy, the political system operates under control of the direct monarch, although heavily moderated by advisers comprising of renowned heroes and strong personalities. Currently Imbe Drakenherir rules, although Magistrate Havran Danathor manages the day to day operations of the kingdom.
The current key advisers number only of Luthien Niphredel; an Elvish archmage, Cerwyn Gwelt; captain of the Warders and Ahren Rowe; commander of the Merdith City Watch.
Defences
Currently Ameril is capable of mustering approximately 6,000 service members, most of which are called from the civilian population within the cities and towns. The military accepts all volunteers from the population although non-humans are incredibly rare, after passing the required screening checks.
In peacetime the armed forces are managed by individual garrison or city commanders, however during battle they are led by Gaine Danathor. The role of the current armed forces is defensive in its makeup, designed to combat large scale threats or creatures that may cause destruction that affects the entire nation. Currently the active armed forces are severally depleted after the recent war with the Yushan and sits at less than 200 active members.
Industry & Trade
Ameril has a small network of ambassadors and diplomats abroad at any one time. At current a tentative cease fire and non-aggression pact is in effect with the Yushan, the dividing line being drawn off the coasts of either nation, although both pirates and other creatures take great advantage of this demilitarised zone.
Ameril's stance on the Tradewind Isles is one of tentative acceptance. They operate as major trading partners and are allowed free reign of the country given their small population and apparent lack of desire to conquer or invade.
Given Kirrougen's neutral stance and relatively limited military power Ameril has set no official diplomatic stance, although talks with the fledging nation are underway.
The currency of Ameril, known as Crowns (gold), Blades (silver) and Bits (copper). Called so for the royalty, the cost to buy a sword and payment for a 'bit' of work.
Infrastructure
Ameril has a 3 major cities, 6 towns and 17 villages dotting its countryside. Areas near the main cities are heavily populated and traveled whilst towns away from the major trade routes are rarely ventured to and spend most of their time minding their own problems. Although each population centre generally governs itself all the leaders swear fealty to the ruler within Meridith.
Guilds and Factions
History
Recently reeling off a lengthy war with the Yushan and compounded by the attempted overthrow of a disgraced paladin, the release of an ancient fortress' power and the death of its beloved monarch Ameril is now struggling to retain its holdings. With the military in disarray and a Magistrate watching the walls as a new heir comes to age the nation is in desperate need of resourceful individuals willing to defend the nation and confront its enemies.
Architecture
Much of the architecture of the nation is made from the local wood and quarried stone, with only larger buildings being built from the latter. Simple roofs and expansive steads, often linked with defenses are found dotted the landscape, generally with multiple layers in order to manage the harsh winters that cover the nation.
Geography
Consisting of three distinct regions; The Heartlands, The Reach and Northcrest, the nation covers an area of 140,000 square miles and, as the crow flies, can be covered by 20 days ride to east to west and 16 days ride north to south.
Elevation ranges from the mountains of the Trespass Ranges (highest point: Coldspire Peak at 9,700 feet) the depths of Rivers Deep (lowest depth at 1100 feet below sea level). The forests and plains of central Ameril are traversed by the Dragonstream, High River and Low River, with the Tricklestreams and Spirit Stream on the northern and western regions. Much of Ameril including Northcrest is frozen for large portion of the year, with temperatures dropping well below 0, however the southern coasts and The Heartlands have a more seasonal climate controlled by relatively humid winds, swept in over the Mooncrest Ocean. This area of Ameril gets an average of 700mm of precipitation per year and there is no consistent dry season. The climate can be described as subpolar with short mild summers and longer, cold winters. The south west of the region, known as The Reach has less rainfall and comprise mostly of arid badlands, further affected by the magical disruption of the Waning Rift to the east.
Paved roads are few and far between. The main roads between settlements are simply refered to as "The Road" and signposts indicate the nearest settlements by day's travel.
Natural Resources
Ameril itself is rich in a variety of natural resources, a variety of lumber from the expansive forests, iron ore from the The Split, Spellstone from the Shimmerlake and Orichalcum from the east.
In addition to this vast tracks of farmland provide a steady amount of animals and crops. Rice and potatoes being the main staples of many meals.
Rarer artifacts are often found across the land, most notably in The Reach.
