Human
Formed from the magical mutations the Dragons performed on their Elf enemies, Humans are a relatively new race to the lands of Illantior, their existence measuring less than 2,000 years. Even so they are aggressive, gregarious and possess a drive to expand that others do not. Due to this, along with the near annihilation of most of the other sentient races humans are by face the most populous and dominant race in Ameril. Humans reflect elves in many of their traits, their desires and goals, but always to an extreme. This was to fit the Dragon's goals of creating a slave race. Their bodies stronger and more brutish, hairy to survive the harsh winters and battles that they were made for. Their lifespans shortened and their reproductive capacities enhanced to make a short lived, constant stream of slaves. Their intelligence reduced and emotions enhanced to whip them into battle, or feel things more keenly.
Most humans, like any other race have a wide variety of goals, drivers and preferences. They live their lives as if in fast forward compared to other races, and often do not consider the long term impacts or ramifications of their actions. Although expansionist they make fantastic diplomats and negotiators. Humans in many places are fascinated by older races and cultures, though at times they grow frustrated or even contemptuous of ancient and (to their mind) outmoded traditions. Their attitudes toward other races are thus a curious mix of exoticism and even fetishism, though usually with a very superficial level of understanding and appreciation of those cultures. Human scholars engaged in the study of other races; who might be assumed to be the most cosmopolitan and well versed in their nature and culture have often proved no better than the less-learned members of their race when it comes to genuine closing of the social distance. Humans are gregarious, often friendly, and willing to mix and interact with others, but their sheer obliviousness to their off handed marginalization of others is what so chagrins other races when dealing with them.
Ambition alone drives countless humans, and for many, adventuring serves as a means to an end, whether it be wealth, acclaim, social status, or arcane knowledge. A few pursue adventuring careers simply for the thrill of danger. Humans hail from myriad regions and backgrounds, and as such can fill almost any role within an adventuring party.
