From where we come from, communication between two continents was nothing noteworthy, but within this realm things are not so simple.— Remote Engineer Press Conference
What exactly is it that you built?
Great question! We have developed a rune called the "Glyph of Communication", which is basically a magical engravement put on a
Coin of Communication in order for it to extend its range.
Yes, hello! Uhm... but how does it work?
A traditional Coin of Communication connects to exactly one other of its kind. With translucent very thin
Soulsilk connectors, two people can communicate in a range, depending on the
Soulweavers expertise. With the improved Glyph design, a communication field we call a
Link Field is created, within which everyone with the same glyph design can communicate, whose range also does not depend on a single persons knowledge, but rather the engravings themselves.
But how much of an improvement will this bring?
Thank you for the question! While traditional Coins can only have one link to another coin with a maximum distance of around 50 meters, the improved Glyph design extends that range to around 200 meters, while also allowing for more than two participants in one conversation. Additionally, as long as two or more
Link Fields overlap, glyph holders can talk to each other. So if a line is formed where five glyphs are in 200 meter distance of the next one, it is possible to communicate with people one kilometer away.
How do you think people will use this in the future?
The applications are limitless. While we created these Glyphs with
Soulventure applications in mind, I don't see a reason why not to install these in big cities like
Vaporio in order for big organizations to communicate over a secure field remotely from anywhere.
How hard was it to create them and how hard are they to mass produce in the future?
Interesting question! While the research process was long and tedious, we are working tirelessly with the
Craftsmen Consortium to refine the design and teach
Artificers and Trinketers to replicate the glyphs. In essence, if the crafters are already adept in forging Coins of Communication, there shouldn't be much of a problem, since the Glyphs work on the same basis of these coins.
Can the general public also benefit from this invention?
But of course! While the current design is still a bit flawed, I can see these coins being used to transmit news, adverts, quests and other things. The
Clockwork Courier are, as far as I know, already sending interest towards the new designs.
