The Kingdom of Xu

The most powerful of all the centaur nations or settlements in the Forbidden Isles, the Kingdom of Xu is a fertile, prosperous land centred in the island of Vork, the second largest of all of the Isles, with a size of almost two-hundred thousand square miles. Named after the prestigious Xu dynasty, who first set up colonies on Vork over thirteen-hundred years ago, this nation was driven from its old homeland in the east by war, famine and the Fires. It has reforged itself from the ashes however, and through establishing footholds on @Tzunar, [url=], and other nearby islands, has become a strong competitor over the centuries as the The Phurzic Dominion and the Vulgar Empire waged war on smaller nations and each other. Now, the powerful nation is ready to establish a further presence in the Isles, as General Xou Sinduan wishes to make his nation into a force to challenge the Dominion itself! Having purchased a deadly force from the east, Xou hopes to change the balance of power forever.

Structure

King: the head of state, the most powerful person in the kingdom.   First Citizen: the King’s chief adviser, more involved in running most of the realm, while the king and his other advisers deal with diplomacy, he keeps the wagons running on time.   The royal family: the branch of the royal family to which the king belongs. Usually not extending to other cadet branches of the original Xu family.   The Generals: Typically of other cadet branches of the Xu family, the generals are appointed to their position by the King and First Citizen to both directly hold the military and maintain order in the cities in non-civilian matters. While part of the landed aristocracy, their appointment is not hereditary and can be revoked whenever the King or his First Citizen disapproves.   The Sewn: The court of eunuchs or geldlings who assist both the king and first citizen in the running of Xu society   The army: the officers and commanders subservient to the Generals.   The Shaman: spiritual leaders and propagates of the state religion.   The people: the common people outside of the aristocracy, mainly of the Orange Xoeu ethnic classification.

Assets

Wealthy in natural resources, including large gold mines belonging to the crown, and forests to gain timber and pelts from, Xu has acquired great wealth to compete with its much more war like neighbours. A large and well equipped navy that has even developed ships capable of brazing the harsh waters of Sula and Vulgar is present, due to supplies of wood. The lesser islands of Sheizou and Byon provide valuable minerals and culturally prestigious feathers of the red peacock, used by the generals to signify their ranks. The port cities of Jinwai and Xulea control strategic trade points used to communicate with the Southern Alliance and the various Jazyart tribes.   The largest pre-Olm settlement in the world is located in central Vork, known as Dunz, and believed to have been built by the ancestors of the primitive humans known as the Xollin, before centaurian colonisation. While not as ancient as the mysterious rocks that make up the even older older settlement of Ohor, it has provided valuable research for Xu to explore their island’s history.

History

Originally from the lands of the east, the nation that would become Xu was founded by a centaur warlord of the same name who took the westernmost part of the Sungrian peninsula. For eight hundred years, Xu’s many descendants expanded into a powerful kingdom, though in its last years before the Fires, it faced pressure from the neighbouring Scut kingdom further east, who seeked to unite the peninsula. Thirteen hundred years ago, the first settlements were established in Vork in order to gain a competitive edge over the other kingdoms of southern Porpuda. The Xu were forced to migrate to the island of Vork entirely following the eruption of the Fires, and with the collapse of Olm into anarchy, became the island’s sole rulers. Their ancient rivals, the Scut were also broken by the Fires, as were the neighbouring kingdoms. In migrating west, the Xu escaped the centuries of war that the centaurian kingdoms endured before the Silver Sun united them. Having rarely engaged in military adventures over the centuries besides taking smaller islands and setting a toehold on Tzunar itself, the Xu have mostly kept to themselves so far. With the advise of General Xou however, this seems set to change.

Foreign Relations

Has developed cordial relations with the Empire of the Silver Sun, despite its more ancient history, though is more hostile with the Dominion due to its large overextended military, seeking to limit said expansion by providing counterweights.
