General Sinduan Xou (a.k.a. Mace of Xu)

Xou Sinduan is one of, if not the most esteemed military commander in the Kingdom of Xu. With a career of putting down rebellions, protecting the port city of Jinwai from the Jazyart-Alyaba tribe and establishing the new city of Xuleu to the south, Xou has more than earned his reputation as a fearsome presence, both on the battlefield and in court. However, while his manners in court are full of courtesy and splendour, those who serve him or face him in battle know it quite differently.
While currently dwelling in his home city of Qourshen, he is planning for a proxy war between the now United Jazyart Confederation under Cyxi, and the feudal Kingdom of Evergnon, hoping to gain a strategic advantage over the Phurzic Dominion. In order to help his nomad ally, he has persuaded the king Xog Beidoun to send enough money to the empire of Vongchou to purchase a major tactical advantage...

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Larger than average for his kind, Xou possesses good strength and an imposing stature. In good physical shape despite being in his fifties, his relatively handsome features are considered at least circumstantial evidence that the rumours of his many bastards have some truth to them.

A robust, muscular build, as well as unusually large stature overall.

Facial Features

Xou possesses slightly downward facing eyes, as if looking down with contempt at others. He possesses a long tapering beard in the end of his chin, as well as a striped jaw-beard inspired by the stripescythers native to Vork. He also possesses a short but thick moustache just beneath the nose. One of his ears is missing the tip, possibly due to a battle related injury.

Identifying Characteristics

Xou’s nose is pierced with a ring as with a bull, and he bears a tattoo of a Morningstar across his chest, though few see him without his black armour, even at court.

Black scale armour, with red feathers of the Blood-Peacock, the rarest bird in Xu, in his helmet. He wears this combination even in court. Emerald ring on his middle finger on his right hand. A necklace of bear teeth.

Education

One of the regional noble families, and cadet branches of the original Xu dynasty, Xou has access to a solid standard of education, and became a renowned javelin thrower at just fifteen. From then on, his military career shined. His father, Xou Dichon’s death while crossing a fallen bridge allowed Xou to further ascend into the old king’s court as one of his senior military advisers.

Employment

Has served in Xu’s army since the age of sixteen, having been initially granted a naturally high position due to his high birth. However, he instead tried to work his way up through the ranks more conventionally, forcing himself to become one of the best in not just combat skill, but as a general. His personal forces are disciplined, loyal and fear only him. Having been manoeuvred into a higher ranking role toward the king, he also has a chance to instruct other generals or officers towards the paths that suit him.

At nine, was fluent in three different languages and learning more. At fifteen, was considered fit for military service. At seventeen, fathered his first known bastard, future officer Nin Bashat. At twenty-one, married his first wife, Xio Xene. At twenty-two, formed his own mercenary company, the Black Suns. At twenty-three, had his first true born daughter, Xou Kila. At twenty-five, defeated and personally killed the esteemed Svotz commander Izan Gloriov at the Battle of the Thül valley. At twenty-eight, had his second daughter, Xou Dicha At thirty-two, followed after his father in becoming role as general, disbanding the Black Suns into his personal guard. At thirty-six, succeeded his father as military adviser after the latter’s death, deemed officially to be an accident, though some are doubtful. At thirty-eight till forty one, he intervened in the first Blue Moon rebellion over in the Empire of the east, assisting in the Empire’s victory. Gained acquaintance with Emperor Kyung Kuk at the end of this. At forty-two, began negotiations with the Jazyart Yart; Cyxi Gish, covertly funding his campaigns against the other Yarts. At forty-three, had his first true born son, named Xou Fekshun. It is believed he had at least twelve bastards by this point. At forty-five, secretly remarried to Kmai Gish, human daughter of Cyxi.

Failures & Embarrassments

At four, learned late to talk. At six, broke up with his friend Jik after rumours of unusually cruel treatment emerged. Never again made close friends with others of his age. At thirteen, was excluded from a tourney after smuggling in alcohol. At twenty-two, lost his first battle in northern Altyn, during the Dominion’s conquest of the region. At twenty-four, lost an attempted son to a miscarriage. At thirty, was fired from his role as manager of Nouleng’s national prison after reports of unjust treatment emerged. At forty, was humiliated at court by Xiar Jenrin, previous First Citizen before Biada, who used Xou’s bastard son’s keeping of centaur slaves as an excuse to dismiss him. The following year, Xiar was killed by members of the Yellow Spears company. At forty-one, lost the battle of Oortyang to the Company of the Claw.

Morality & Philosophy

From a young age, possessed an outwardly disciplinary practise in mastering combat skill and commanding, inspiring loyalty. However, in reality, Xou’s concern is building his own power base militarily and politically, seeing others, even if his own species and ethnicity as beneath him. While he does have a dynastic claim on the Xu throne, his interest is pragmatic, hence why he has not declared treason as other rival claimants have.
