Qourshen
On the eastern coast of Vork lies Quorshen, an important city in The Kingdom of Xu, important for trading with the nations of the east. It is also the birthplace of the Xou family, a branch of the old Xu dynasty that formerly ruled Xu for two hundred years before being deposed by the rival Xog family, who moved the capital to Nouleng as a result. Currently ruled by General Xou Sinduan, the city continues to be the easternmost gem of the kingdom.
Demographics
96% centaurs and 4% humans. Centaurs consist of 13% High Xoeu and 83% Orange Xoeu, being one of the most extreme differences in demographics in all of Xu. Humans mainly come from civilised members of the Xollin peoples.
Government
With a local aristocracy, the Xou family bear great local power here, though which member of the family is considered the leading figure is appointed by the king as general, due to sufficient military training. Currently, General Xou Sinduan is the most important centaur in local government, though a column of magisters exist who operate the day to day running of the city.
Defences
Surrounded by a ten metre wide and ten metre deep moat, the city is hard to take by land or by sea, as while the waters of the Sapphire Sea are clean, they are not fre from regular Xu patrols to root out piracy or enemies. Protection of the local whaling industry is also considered of importance. Behind the moat, the city walls are twenty-five metres tall excluding the guard towers, armed with archers and ballistae. In addition, trebuchets are kept behind the walls to ambush attacking armies, should they ever try to attack the city. The city's defenses have for most of the last two centuries withered due to the peace in Xu, though in recent years, the city's ruler, General Xou has increased guard patrols and defense budgets, for reasons that are not yet known.
