The Dark Church

Keep the evil bastards close!
Captain Barker of the City Watch about the Dark Church worshipers, 839AP

I had requested Nothing - the head of the Dark Church, to write this article, but he declined, claiming I'd only butcher his words and then publish it under his name. (As if I would ever do that!)

The Dark Church has little influence inside Tenglan, with the institution and it's followers closely monitored by the City Guard. The head priest calls himself Nothing and often attempts to stir unrest amongst the people of Imperias City by supplying the Night Stalkers with weapons and masks on their raids during Day and Night Cycle . The The Queen is the only race leader that allows the dark religion. (The Ofrak religion is unknown).

The Queen has never explained why she allows such a controversial institution to exist, but rumours within the The Royal Guard reveal dissolving it would have catastrophic effects, but nobody knows why. Captain Barker of the City Watch gave a clearer response, claiming the Dark Church exists because it makes it easier to keep an eye on the dangerous criminals who congregate around the church using it as their base.

It seems the Queen tolerates their actions whilst the Dark Lord has minimal support, but what happens if his popularity rises?

A Place of Divine Darkness

The Dark Church is not an ugly building with its elegant glass-panelled entrance and symmetrical box design, but what separates it from any other in Tenglan is its inability to capture or reflect light. No matter how sunny and bright the day, the building always remains impossibly dark. Just approaching the building churns your stomach as an overwhelming need to release your day's consumed food takes over.

The Descent

In keeping with the idea of taking steps down to Esh, after entering the building, you must descend into the bowels of the building, where it is believed you will encounter the most dangerous dark beings in Lendor.
Although, as always, with information regarding the Dark Church, things are never quite what they seem.

More about Nothing:

Not much is known of his past since the Dark Church holds no historical books, and the White Church refused to answer any of my questions regarding this enigmatic man. I had to scour the archivian records, and all I found is listed below. (Quite an insightful list, I think you'll agree).
  • His age is unknown, but since the record books show there has only ever been one Head of the Dark Church, we can assume he's at least several centuries older than Father Superior.
  • He loves chocolate ice cream. (The darker the better, obviously!)
  • Hates anything with no flavour (for example, ready-salted crisps, plain biscuits and vanilla ice cream).
  • Loves water (which, ironically, seems to negate the previous point).
  • He's a vegetarian (no joke).
  • Hates lying (hmmm, something tells me the archivians might not have the most up-to-date records of the Dark Servant).
  • Hates the unnatural touch of Essence on his skin and the sun's rays hitting his face (OK, now that sounds more like a priest of darkness).
  • Believes people don't understand his Church and its philosophy. (Death and destruction generally is not too difficult to understand).
  • Says all those who follow the White Lord don't understand God's powers and what the Lord of Light did on day 1 of purification. (Now that is interesting, especially as I was there on day 1 - but, unlike the The Queen, I don't like bragging about my age).
And that is all we know. (Well, apart from my little secret...)

A reveal only for my loyal readers:

Rumours from the Dark - Ricardo Butler

The Dark Church is more than what appears. Nothing works for more than just the Dark Lord. He plays a dangerous game mixing his allegiance, clouding his ultimate purpose.
The destruction of Lendor serves no benefit for anyone even for the Demons lurking in the shadows. Perhaps this is what he meant by nobody understands his church. I can say no more on the matter - Ricardo Butler.
