Sonev

Sonev is the land of vast empires locked in eternal war, a land of divine meddling and terrible oppression. In the East, the powerful Goddess-Empress Suwota rules the great and terrible Runevan Empire, the most populated and well-armed state in the world. The Runevan Empire is in constant tension with both the material powers and the divine ones, and the entire Lunar Pantheon works to contain it. While the Lunar Pantheon is not coordinated in this, most support the great empires of the West to counterbalance Runeva's power: the three great empires of the Inarin dynasty Okita, Miuta, and Amizar. Every other state in Sonev is either aligned with one of these sides or desperately trying to play them off each other to remain independent.   What does this mean for people on the ground? It means a specter of constant war and paranoia, with powerful divine-based regimes carefully monitoring and controlling their citizenry. Caste and class systems abound here, as war and suspicion has made the rich richer and the poor poorer. The chemical and magical weapons these empires wield are beyond what peasant rebels can handle in open warfare, and guerrilla resistance has created a normal state of rural state terror. Runeva and its God-Empress indoctrinate their citizens to see the outside world as touched by a terrible evil, and align the people of Runeva into strictly controlled castes, and even the opposing empires have adopted many of the same techniques.    War is nightmarish but infrequent here, and the trade and business here seems to be constantly booming. And yet, there is great hierarchy, great fear, and great violence that silently rule the land. For those dealt an unlucky hand at birth, happiness must be fought for tooth and nail.

Geography

Sonev is a series of peninsulas and land bridges surrounding the great central Kenavan Sea- a body of water 1217 by 1299 miles apart, with the much smaller connecting Haravan sea to the North spanning 95 by 580 miles across. The Kenavan Sea connects to the Western ocean via the straights of Miuta, 37 miles across.   The peninsula to the Northwest is known as Arturi, and is 1877 miles long and ranges from 70 to 342 miles across. It is relatively flat and mostly subtropical forest, with the exception of the Itukari mountains in the North (which are famously mineral-rich).   The Eastern land bridge is known as Geturi, and is 991 miles long and 221 miles across, with the Kejari mountains in the center and North. In the South, these mountains connect with the larger Ibith-Sonev Ankatan mountains- a large mountainous patch 539 by 652 miles across, reaching as high as 2000' above sea level. Geturi and its connecting lands range from humid subtropical forests to arid grassy flatlands, to cool continental forests. In the far Southwest is the Faru- the great plains, known as the land of the "Faro" horse-tribes. In the North is a great ring of hot, lightly populated arid plains, though the tropical Northeast has recently blossomed into a land of great cities and kingdoms known as Ratkaturi- the land of great coral kingdoms where the peoples of the land and sea meet.
