Flowyrms

Also known as Springdrakes, Fruit Dragons, and Pseudodragons.    Born of the Asalayan Underworld and specially crafted by Halcyon, Flowyrms are a unique blend of dragon and plant.    The most noticeable and magical phase of their life cycle is the draconic phase- the psuedodragon. The draconic phase appears as a small traditional Western dragon, ranging 1-4 feet in length. They come in vibrant blue and purple colors, and have large butterfly-like wings. The small dragons are fairly smart, but not quite sentient. They eat fruit, nuts, pollen, sap, insects, and small animals. When not on the hunt, they spend their days pollinating flowers, planting special seeds that they carry in a small pouch in their mouths, and socializing. While not aggressive, they can defend themselves when threatened but spitting acidic nectar and snapping with their powerful little jaws.    The seeds planted by the draconic phase grow into the second phase of their life cycle: tall pitaya cacti. These cacti produce dragon fruit - most of which are completely mundane. But periodically, the cacti produce magical dragon fruit that hatch into full-fledged psuedo-dragons. Cacti that flourish seem to have a higher chance of producing dragons, indicating a possible nutritional investment to make the magic work.     While one might imagine that cacti grow in deserts, the Flowerwyrm cactus tends to prefer humid tropical or subtropical forests. Sour Flowerwyrms more adapted for arid climates have developed from cross-pollination with sour pitaya in recent years, but they do take longer in better conditions to produce psuedodragons.    Flowerwyrms were first introduced into the surface world in the late 600s ME, and can be found in the wild in Izekra, Southern Samvara, and Sonev. They have recently begun to spread in the wild of Southern Desmia, Makal, and Southwestern Suneka. They can be found in royal gardens around the world.
