Suntail Grass

Suntail grass is a kind of millet long grass with a large bristle-like flower spikelets at the end, much like a foxtail grass. This cluster of spikelets glows brightly in the dark and remains luminous for several days after it is plucked.    Older suntail grasses look more like traditional foxtail millets (thinner, more stable flowers), though interbreeding with typha grass (which have much thicker "cattail" flowers) has led to the proliferation of suntail grasses with typha-like flowers (but glowy).   Suntails were originally planted by Halycon in Eastern Samvara in the 300s DE.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Suntail grass flowers/spikelets are highly valued as a light source and decoration. For years the Halikvari temple attempted to hold a monopoly on them- particularly the thicker cattail variety. This monopoly has since ended, and they have since spread in every direction- slowly but surely. Warriors prize suntails as a smokeless light for nightraids or expeditions, aristocrats value suntails and liquidifed suntail essences for decoration, bureaucrats and writers value suntails as a convenient candle alternative, and priests value suntails for ritualistic representations of lightning and dawnbreak. Underground Kima cities have also used suntails for smokeless lighting, greatly improving living conditions for humans there.
