Dienstmann
A warrior-commoner
A Dienstmann is a warrior-commoner, who is essentially between a serf (or Eigen) and an ennobled officer (or Edler).
Dienstmenn often work as men-at-arms, soldiers, or leading household servants. They often are given farms for their families with reduced restrictions on their mobility, marriage, and inheritance. In exchange, they generationally train their children in arms or service.
Dienstmenn are a fairly small class, often associated with more powerful nobles who need larger warbands and more subordinate agents. Some Dienstmenn live in warrior-communes, or Dienshtevs - these are more common in dangerous areas under Margraves. Other Dienstmenn work as mercenaries or as members of Lunar cults (such as the warrior-cultists of Kamminfost).
While Dienstmenn are often associated with warriors, many are instead artisans, doctors, or other skilled commoners of the countryside.
The Dienstmenn class is essentially a catch-all for bound families of privilege with particular associated tasks.
