Hallifell

Founded in 4181 by the legendary adventuring group known as the Scions of the Turquoise Cod, Hallifell is a quiet, unassuming town tucked between forests and rolling hills. Located north of Virifell, east of Camor, south of the Lunar Laguna Resort, and west of the Scarlet Pinnacle, Hallifell exists as a place of rest, healing, and mentorship—especially for those who have walked dangerous paths and seek peace.

Hallifell is not protected by walls, but by legacy, trust, and the quiet promise that no trouble will go unanswered. Here, legends live softly—and those who seek peace or purpose are always welcome.

Demographics

Hallifell is home to around 200 residents, a mix of retired adventurers, skilled commonfolk, and a few young migrants passing through or seeking mentorship. The racial mix is broad: humans, elves, dwarves, gnomes, dragonborn, and tieflings are common. Most residents are middle-to-lower class, but several are well-off from past adventures. Professions range from farmers and herbalists to retired bounty hunters and arcane researchers.

Government

Hallifell is an informal theocracy of respect led by Amsuhar, the former paladin of the Scions of the Turquoise Cod. There are no taxes, but a voluntary tithe box at the town hall funds maintenance and supplies. Laws are enforced more by consensus and honor than strict legal code—if someone causes trouble, everyone notices, and many of them are ex-adventurers itching for action. Disputes are usually resolved at The Cracked Mug over a drink and a mediated conversation.

Defences

Hallifell has no wall, moat, or garrison—but it doesn’t need them. The defense of the town lies in the people themselves: former adventurers with nothing to prove, but plenty of skill if trouble arises. Amsuhar alone is enough to deter most threats, and there are at least a dozen others capable of drawing a blade or casting a ward without hesitation. Several watchposts, disguised as weather towers, ring the outer edge of town. Protective glyphs set by Blaze still hum faintly beneath certain doorways and cobblestones. A few residents keep trained beasts, and others are known to set magical alarms in the surrounding forest. While there’s no official guard, there is what locals jokingly refer to as the “retiree response unit”—a loose collection of ex-adventurers who relish the rare opportunity to be useful again.

Industry & Trade

Hallifell survives through simple but sufficient industries. Farming and foraging provide food for locals and traveling guests alike. Potion brewing and minor smithing keep trade moving, especially for adventurers stopping in on their way north or east. Blaze and Gundigoia deal in exotic magical components and rare ingredients, often brought in from passing merchants. Imports are typically limited to things the town can't produce itself—like paper, rare fabrics, alcohols from faraway places, or unique alchemical reagents.

Infrastructure

Though modest, Hallifell is well-maintained. It has A cobbled town square used for gatherings and the farmer’s market along with underground rainwater collection cisterns that then lead to simple irrigation channels to the surrounding fields.

Assets

Despite its size, Hallifell boasts several treasured establishments. Blaze’s Wondrous Arcana serves as both a general goods store and a curious little magical shop run by one of the founding Scions. Gefortas’s Armory provides high-quality tools, weapons, and armor—especially for those seeking something modest but dependable. Gundigoia’s Apothecary is a strange but comforting place offering herbal medicines, restoration potions, and an ever-changing selection of "enhancement tonics." The town's lively heart is The Cracked Mug, an inn owned by Firtheard, an old veteran of the purple worm conflict. The town also supports a modest but well-stocked farmer’s market, providing produce, homebrewed spirits, and the occasional enchanted turnip.

History

Founded in 4181 after the Scions of the Turquoise Cod retired from adventuring, Hallifell began as a refuge for their injured and traumatized party. The group had defeated a purple worm migration in Trinda in 4179 and stayed to rebuild the city using harvested monster parts. Hallifell was constructed two years later as a sanctuary for retired adventurers and others seeking peace. Over time, it evolved into a quiet waypoint town, holding firm to its legacy.

Points of interest

In the center of the market there is a fountain in the shape of a cod fish, dedicated to the founders of the town.

Architecture

Buildings are mostly timber and stone, with chitinous purple worm scale used as accent material or roofing on older structures. The aesthetic is cozy and humble, but seasoned with a history of battle and magic. Structures are adorned with carved fish motifs, herbal wreaths, and handmade lanterns.

Climate

Hallifell enjoys mild, stable seasons. Warm summers, brisk autumns, snowy winters, and rainy but green springs. Storms are rare but roll in off the nearby coast. The town remains beautiful year-round, with blooming herbal fields in spring and blazing leaf colors in fall.

Hallifel Town Notice

Welcome, traveler.

You now walk among legends—quiet ones, retired ones, but legends nonetheless.

Laws are simple here:

Do no harm.
Respect the peace.
Leave your ego at the gate.

This is a place for rest, not reckoning.

Cause trouble, and you may find out just how little we've forgotten.
— Amsuhar
