Tuloni I Character in Gokrenxia | World Anvil

Tuloni I (too͞′-lôn′-ē)

In order to protect a peoples, they must be ruled. There cannot be a question of who is or is not authoritative. No, authority must be absolute. Unquestioned. Devotion must be unswerving. Unshakable. That cannot be achieved without confidence in the one who makes the decisions. And it is only this devotion that will allow my Empire to withstand the forces of change which have yet to reveal themselves.
— Tuloni I addresses his court

Key Points

  • Deceased philosophical founder of the Elven Empire
  • Renowned Myndikin supremacist
  • Mysterious master of the arcane

    Background

Little is known about Tuloni the First's upbringing prior to what is recorded about The Grand Celebration. There, he was announced as the first High Lord and Overseer of the land, unifying the peoples of Gokrenxia and ushering in the First Age of peace and prosperity for which he is so highly exalted. This mysterious lack of history has lead some to speculate Tuloni may have in fact been a celestial (which the Elves are only more than happy to foster, as this helps to justify their ideas of being destined to rule).   Tuloni I ruled Gokrenxia for 83 years before losing a battle to a strange disease that ravaged both his mind and body. Before his decline, he made it commonly known that rule of his Empire would pass to his daughter, continuing his line and legacy.

    Personality Characteristics

    Motivation

    Protect the Empire

Central to Tuloni I's words and actions was the idea that the Elven Empire must be sustained, at all costs. To his credit, the Empire he built existed for nearly 900 years.

    Prepare for the Unknown

Worry was not a characteristic one could use to describe Tuloni, but a driving force in his writings was a consumption with the idea that a day was coming when something terrible would happen, and the Elves were the only ones with the strength to face it.

    Likes & Dislikes

    Likes

Music. He loved music. It filled his courts day and night. In fact, many modern tunes and poems can trace their roots back to the time of his rule. He believed strongly in the need for balance of the mind and body, encouraging his beloved court to challenge themselves in new ways every day; to both learn new things and train to become stronger, faster, and more agile. It was not uncommon for Tuloni to challenge his court members to what became known as the "delawiaat", a multi-faceted sporting event where opponents had to rely on both physical and mental agility to win.

    Dislikes

It is no surprise to learn that Tuloni I disliked the Kynekin. He believed they were less mentally capable than the Myndikin races of Elves, Dwarves, and Humans. It is unsurprising then, that this philosophy underpinned the mindset of the First Age, and largely still to some extent today. He did not enjoy travelling, preferring to remain in his walled cities and golden courts, surrounded by his followers. He found matters of finance incredibly tedious.
