Sato

Sato is the largest city in the outer Garot Forest⁣⁣⁣⁣. It is the largest logging center in the entire Republic⁣⁣⁣⁣ responsible for building entire fleets throughout its history. Sato is the third largest city in the province of Redwater and is considered the most diverse city racially in the entire Republic. The city of Sato itself is considered relatively safe and has only been sieged to twice, once following the Fourth Hadash Expedition and once during the Sundering in which its half of its population was killed and the other half was enslaved by the attacking armies of Those of Gaulren. Since its recapture during the Justicar's Crusades Sato has never been attacked and has been an excellent source of wealth and resources for the province of Redwater.

Defences

Sato is protected by a large wooden palisade. Sato also usually contains between two centuries to an entire cohort stationed inside as well as several contuberniums in the surrounding area. Sato is considered relatively undefended for a city of its size, but since it is deep in the woods and so close to the city of Kaivoss troops have been determined to not be needed there. With so many adventurers calling Sato home the Evocati are able to call on a number of mercenaries.   Anytime threats from the inner Garot Forest⁣⁣⁣⁣ that become too great for the city to deal with then Kaivoss will dispatch legionnaires to deal with the issue or the Justicar's blades a handful of Venandi.

Industry & Trade

Sato is known for its vast logging industry. Due to the amount of logs they are able to sell, mostly to Kaivoss for building ships, are able to afford the number of mercenaries to deal with any problems that come from the inner Garot Forest⁣⁣⁣⁣. Sato does not trade a significant amount with other nations due to its inland location in spite of the amount of adventurers coming from all across Gaulren. The contracts in Sato are very lucrative and abundant and on top of that Sato is the only major city that does not require citizenship in order to own land. It does import weaponry from the Minor Dwarven holds in the Tarnished Mountains, but past that trade caravans mostly leave Sato not arrive.   Sato only recently received a permanent magic shop after the former Lunsine college magic shop caused a massive fire in the area resulting in their ban from the city around a century ago. Lunsine mages are still treated warily in most towns in the outer Garot forest.

Infrastructure

Within the city there are a few shops and buildings of importance.

El Fal's Emporium of Trinkets

Owned and operated by El Fal, a migrant from the Adal Caliphate with connections to various arcane artifact and trinket crafters back in Dumien. He set up shop after hearing about Sato's lack of magic shops and its plethora of adventurers. He started out in a stall selling his wares until he was able to make enough money to purchase a shop. Luckily Sato is the only major city in the Republic that doesn't require citizenship to own land. His shop sticks out like from the rest of the shops in the town thanks to its construction out of imported sandstone compared to the rest of the town being made out of wood.

The Drunken Boar

Owned and operated by Thurman Hadashtus, a former member of the Republican navy renowned for his exploits in Hadasht during the thirteenth Hadasht expedition. Deciding he had enough of the sea he took his stipend and built a tavern in Sato far from the ocean. He decided on the name after travelling to the city a boar came to his camp and drunk a significant amount of his ale. The drunken beast was easy to kill so on his first day of operation he was able to also sell the boar meat and the remaining stock of ale. His son works the bar with him named Carl as well as a hired barmaid name Ailean Woodrus.

The Stout-Hearted

A half stone half wooden building with a small forge outside mostly for repairs and crafting small amounts of weapons and armor as most production is done back in the holds in the Tarnished Mountains⁣⁣ It is owned by a Dwarf couple Nungrad and Cignin Solidguard, a rather friendly pair of dwarves.

Garot's Respite

The Garot's respite is a general store run by a man by the name Almitt Sharold. He is a rather softspoken man who does his best to help out the less fortunate in the town while still being able to afford to run his store. Almitt sells any general items needed for travel and survival in the forest.

Legionnaire Barracks.

The barracks in which the legionnaires stationed in the city stay at. The barracks is rather small for a city of its size barely being able to hold an entire cohort.

Sato Chapterhouse

The chapterhouse of the Evocati within the city limits of Sato. This chapter house hires the most amount of mercenaries in comparison to a lot of other chapterhouses that rely more on Evocati agents. The chapterhouse is relatively large with a number of clerks and support staff to maintain the paperwork and make sure no threat gets out of the inner Garot forest unnoticed.
