Drest, heir to Magelord Reinold, inherited the throne at 46 after his father's assassination. Unlike his father, Drest was aggressive and vengeful, his leadership driven to strengthen the borders and begin building an army so no outsider would dare strike at the leader of the Oakhand line.
Under the tutelage of Voros of Vuul, Drest officially claimed his borders to be the nation of Vuulydon. His belief that magic imbued individuals were destined to rule was clearly guided by his upbringing and fear of outsiders.
Drest expanded further into the Firefang Jags and warred with the Unruly Frelheid for much of his life.
He held fast to the old ways of the Fonari, believing that the bloodline's survival hinged on strict adherence to traditions dictated by Voros and his Council of Lanterns.
In the risk of danger posed by his bloodline, in particular second born or daughters, Drest had to abide by their customs when his granddaughter Grasia, born with blue hair—a sign of dangerous magic—was thrown from the mountain as custom demanded. His heart was hardened by duty, though he was never entirely at peace with the decisions forced upon him by their cursed bloodline. Drest's age showed in his deep-set eyes and graying beard, but his mind remained sharp until his death at 85, passing the crown to his son Galus.
