Basin of Death
A large valley near the geographic center of Gaia, the Basin of Death is filled with a surprising diversity of life. Most of it, however, is highly hostile to human beings. The western desert, called the Tomb of God's Breath by the locals, has seasonal duststorms known to uproot some of the younger plants that grow there, and to scour the skin from a person's body. The Wood of Ghosts is named, not for any dead trees, but for its noxious gasses and poisonous plants. Similar dangers afflict the Field of Blood. To the east is the Fangs, a hazardous stretch of jagged gorges and jutting spires of rough stone.
Yet despite all this, the Basin is claimed by the Drugh of Drughal. Called the Dru Valley or Dru Basin by outsiders, the land is "shepherded" by these optimistic ascetics, who seek to return the land to some more hospitable state imagined to have existed in the past.
