Salvaging Industry

History

Historically the Salvaging Industry was one of many industries which rose in popularity. This was due to the The Great Rewind, as some resources were destroyed during the event.   Due to the heavy mining and production before the event, there are items that have the resources refined. What the Salvaging industry does, is mine goods that can no longer be used currently such as planes, as they lost flight as a technology, or electrical and electronic goods, as they don’t have stable electricity supplies to run the appliances. The mining idea comes from when newer civilisations mined buildings from older dead civilisations [1].   Nowadays the industry has fallen in popularity as the technology that was salvaged is no longer available or it’s low in number to be viable. For the city the industry itself is non-existent.

What Are The Resources Worth?

Metals

Metals are the main resource that provides the industry with the most money. The table below describes the prices for each metal ingot and its weight.
Metal Ingot Weight Value in New Sovereigns
Aluminium 1kg (2.2lb) 1,250
Copper 1kg (2.2lb) 2,125
Gold 100g (3.53oz) 560,000
Silver 500g (17.64oz) 45,750
Stainless Steel 1kg (2.2lb) 125
Steel 1kg (2.2lb) 125
Tin 100g (3.53oz) 125
Titanium 1kg (2.2lb) 6,000
Zinc 100g (3.53oz) 125

While the Metal is Processed

While the scrap metal is being melted down to liquid to be poured. The graphite moulds are heated up as well so that the moulds can take the heat from the molten metal. They are heated above the metal in the flame of the forge. Once sufficiently heated, tongs are used to move the moulds onto a flat surface.   Once the metal has reaches the correct pouring temperature, which is above the melting temperature of the metal so that is can be poured more easily. Two types of tongs are used, firstly tongs to get the crucible out of the forge is used. The Crucible is left on the ground and another pair of tongs is used this time the handles are at more of an angle to make the pouring easier.   Once the metal is poured it is left to solidify in the moulds, once the metal has solidified the metal ingot is taken out of the mould, by tipping the mould over. Tongs are used to carry the ingots to dunk them in water to cool them enough to handle.   The new ingots are stored ready to be sold at a Warehouses. The more precious metals are locked away for safekeeping and to prevent theft.
