Salvaging: Airport Set up

After The Great Rewind planes were not used as they forgot the technology and did not have the skill to operate the vehicle.   Upon arriving at an airport to be mined they set up areas. Metal fences are set up to separate each area [2][Image left]. To stop the wind, and to make the maze of fences navigable cloth is draped over them. While the wind may move the barriers they are moved back as the cloth is not like a sieve. The advantage of using barriers compared to tents or other moveable structures is the ability to change the size of the areas. As some areas need to be open because of the fumes and heat from the processes. The areas that are set up are;
Metal Refinement
An area for metal refinement will include areas in which there is a pile for each metal and an area for melting those metals. This will include graphite ingot moulds of various sizes. The sizes will depend on the metal and the weight required. For example with metals such as gold and silver, they have moulds that are smaller than the other metals being melted. 500g (17.64oz) for silver and 100g (3.53oz) for gold. They are this size as to be more easily worked in their new lives as metals Gold for jewellery and Silver for silverware and other items of expense. Other metals such as Steel, Aluminium, Copper and others are melted down to 1kg (2.2lbs) as these metals are used at that weight.
Processing the Hardware
Another area is set up for stripping apart hardware such as electric equipment into metals to be sorted. Or breaking down panels of metal, to be made smaller and Copper wire is wound into fist-sized bundles, as to be easily fit into crucibles for melting. This can also be an area for stripping plane seating for fabric and other useful parts.
Metal Testing
The next area is for metal testing. Metals to be tested are mild and high carbon steel. While having magnets, this doesn’t wield the knowledge of whether the metal is high carbon or mild steel. The test is to heat the steel until it is red hot then to quench it after quenching the section of metal that was heated and tempted to be bent. If it snaps it is high carbon steel if not it is mild steel [1]. These are then sorted into the relevant piles.
Washing and Cleaning
The washing and cleaning areas are of course, for washing of the body and of the clothes people are wearing. The bathing areas are of tubs of water, similar to bath, in which a person washes their body and hair by dipping their hands in and covering themselves that way. They do it this way to save on water, as the water is communal.   The washing area for clothes resembles that of the 1930s with mangle and washboards as they don't have the power to use to run washing machines or washer dryers.
Food and Drink Preparation
This area is used for food preparation for meals during the day. The meals themselves while basic, as designed to be substantial.
A Place to Eat
The industry is designed to be taken down and put up easily. Too much for the industry to set up would be counterproductive.
A Place to Socialise
It is essential to have a place that people can unwind and socialise, after a hard day of work. This area has many tables which people sit around and socialise or play tabletop games.
Accommodation
To get into and out of planes for the purposes of accommodation, they either use the large stairs used on historic visits by important people or if the plane is connected to an airport gate, they cautiously use the gate entrance. They are cautious as the airport may not be structurally safe, the majority of the time they opt to strip these planes first.   When they first arrive and have set up the barriers and have chosen two planes one for male and the other for female accommodations. Their next job is to carefully remove the seating from both planes and to remove the carpets. On most occasions, it is to remove enough seating so that everyone can put down a bedroll. They will salvage other planes first. It is only near the end of the project they will work on the planes they have lived in.
