The party left Fernanda the tar merchant at Gas City. They had delivered Grinner the imprisoned ghoul's fancy copper pot and learned that Ysidro's Responders gang were buying up tons of tar to refine at their lair at Huff Track. They continued to head towards Fort Wayne, first stopping at a marker on their Brotherhood map called Rock Creek.
Rock Creek was a sad sight. A camp of refugees had gathered here in an encampment of makeshift tents. Speaking to the locals, they learned that these were travelers who had been robbed by the Responders at Crue's Mark. Ysidro, the leader of the Responders was a Pitt International Finance Capo, and so the The Rustlands authorities would do nothing about the roadblock at Crue's Mark. The refugees lived here in squalor, scavenging what they could from the land.
The locals spoke of a nearby cave that was too radioactive for humans to delve into. Recently, a ghoul had taken shelter inside, but had not come out. Doctor Patch, Linda and Andy decided to investigate. They found that the cave had a steep entrance that was difficult to climb. Linda and Patch made it safely down, but the awkward SchlockettBot fell and landed with a thud. With only minor injuries to Andy, they went further into the cave. Sure enough, there were the remains of a ghoul. The ghoulish man had been injured, most likely at Crue's Mark and come into this cave for its healing radiation. But alas, it was not enough to save him.
Dr. Patch recognized a strange firearm at the ghoul's hip. This was a Devil's Voice revolver, which imbued its bullets with radiation as they left the barrel. Patch had loosely helped the Contaminator project back at the Gravestone Cathedral, making these radioactive weapons to defend ghoul-kind. They gathered up his belongings and left the cave.
Meanwhile, Morag was undergoing a mental change. Standing in the rainy woods, she suddenly felt the presence of her Synth Component. Her biological processes had finally overcome the mechanical part of her. Perhaps it was just her age, perhaps it was the victory of the Synths at Muncie, but her experiences had grown her mind and its independence. Morag still felt the commands of her Synth Component, trying to override her will, but it had become nothing but a suggestion - a far off voice with no power over her.
In her mind, Morag began to access Kay's biological memories. She could see memories left by Keziah. Morag saw Keziah being finished in the Institute's laboratories. A doctor from the robotics department was arguing with a doctor from the Synth Retention Bureau about Keziah's use. The Institute's "Father" had decided that Keziah was of no use, and was to be flushed in the Charles River…
…Keziah awoke on the bank of the Charles, retrieved by a man in a worn suit. He introduced himself as Richard. Keziah was dying of radiation exposure and could barely speak. Richard assumed she was a victim of local raiders and took her to his home and private gallery…
…On a night soon after, raiders came to Richard's House. Keziah was frightened, but Richard had a frightening, determined calmness. Richard Pickman explained that he loved his paintings, made of the blood and viscera of the raiders he killed. But his true art was vengeance. His sister had been brutally violated and murdered by raiders when he was young, and he had dedicated his life to wiping them out. His entire house was filled with devious traps, just waiting for invaders. https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Pickman often travelled the area, taunting and luring vicious raiders into his traps.
And then Kay appeared to Morag, admiring one of his bloody and disturbing paintings. Kay expressed her appreciation for Morag and Beau; they had killed more raiders than Pickman ever had. Their reign of terror was purging wrongdoers from the wasteland. With Morag overcoming her Synth Component, Kay and Morag were now free of the threat of the double-0 program and could rely on each other. Morag was disturbed to hear Kay remind her that she was a guest in Kay's body. And Kay enjoyed being a good host, but she had learned from Pickman what to do with an unwelcome guest.
The  Party left Rock Creek, promising the locals that they would clear the Responders from Crue's Mark. But before that, they decided to fly the Ms. Man airship back to Midwest territory for supplies and communications. As they travelled, they got a good night's Rest.

  (Adventure Day 138)
They flew to a place called Border Town and sold some gear at the local market. The Brotherhood telegraph in Border Town had two messages in the system for them. The first was a telegraph from Mother Sage, the Children of Atom leader back in Emancipation. She wrote Linda that Right Inquisitor Tomas's atrocities were absolutely despicable, and against Atom's will. But only High Confessor Leo had the authority to judge Tomas for his actions. Sage gave her blessings and prayers to Linda, hoping that her journey to Holy Toledo would bring peace and sanity back to the faith. The second message was an encoded file sent from Brotherhood Intelligence in Chicago. The file was encrypted, and Master Scribe Okonkwo said it would take time to decrypt.
The team lifted off and headed back toward Crue's Mark. From the air, they could see an extensive fence as well as concrete blocks in the road. There were a group of Responders patrolling the area, but it was hard to tell how many through the thick tree cover.
The party decided to approach in two groups. Lex, Scipio, Andy and Morag would approach from the West, sneaking through the trees in order to get close. Linda and Patch would co-ordinate a flanking attack from the South after fighting began. At least, that was the plan.
Walking through the dense brush, Lex was loud enough for the Responders to notice. A firefight erupted with most of the team out of position. Andy rushed forward, giving a strong punch through one of the gangster's heads, but received a near-deadly laser blast in return. Out of range of his heavy pistols, Scipio chose to use his long-range lasers instead. He did less damage but was able to keep cover in the trees. Lex did her best to snipe from the trees, slowly thinning the Responder's numbers. Patch threw grenades over the concrete barricades, though he was far from his targets. Linda called upon her Atomic Storm and charged head long into the well-trained enemies. And Morag, out of position with Beau, called upon Kay to use their claws. Kay dashed ahead, slashing the Responders with ease.
The Party took many injurious laser blasts but were emerging as the winners of the fight when they heard a mechanical growl from the East. A Hoofer Light Battle Tank emerged from the forest, the top gunner firing a machine gun into the fray. They looked in horror as the main gun turned to Linda and fired. The enormous tank shell smashed Linda, leaving her unconscious and bleeding out.
The group was in peril, especially the dying Linda. These Responders were clearly better equipped than they had anticipated…
