Background

Born in Vault 40 in 2284. Her mother, Avalon Garridan, died soon after. [Now Lex suspects that it was likely Genetic Disarray Syndrome which killed her mother, a result of Vault 40's horrible experiment, but growing up Lex had no idea.] Lex was raised by the community of the vault, her father Dolion was often away for long periods, scavenging in the wasteland. This overprotective upbringing left her sheltered and isolated.
Lex is close in age to her aunt Alexa Garridan and they had a sisterly relationship in their early years. But when aunt Alexa turned 18, she left the vault to become a sheriff's deputy in Emancipation. Soon after, Dolion left on another expedition and never returned. People around the vault said raiders took him, but spoke little about it.
Even without any family left, Lex's life was happy, filled with fun things to repair and people to talk to. But also safe, confined and filled with routine. She spent all her time reading anything she could get on about the wasteland and pre-war America. Lex grew up believing people were good, authority could be trusted and that the world would be a great adventure.
She has spent most of her adult life working in the vault's high-tech workshops, partnered with Liz Langley under Professor Gritch. Lex was friendly with everyone but close to few. When she was still a baby, her father retrieved a destroyed Mister Handy robot that was reprogrammed to be a medical assistant and renamed Mr. Man. Mr. Man was Lex's closest companion in the vault, someone she could talk to and not worry about being judged. He was the only person she ever shared her dreams of adventure with.
By 2317, Lex was 33 years old - a respected technician, but isolated. When John Giscala called her to help, she was excited to leave the vault and begin the adventure she had been dreaming about all her life. She set out on a journey with The Heroes of St. Louis.

The Game

Story Arc 1 (The St. Louis Summit)
Lex endeavoured to be positive and cooperative after leaving the vault. When John Giscala informed her that her DNA showed she suffered from the "Vault 40 Blip," she took it in stride and didn't press Mayor John for answers. When faced with Kiffle Vescovi, a young man suffering from radiation poisoning, she gave up her last dose of RadAway without hesitation. She was disappointed and frustrated with her Aunt Alexa, who refused to give any information about Vault 40. She distinguished herself by setting the sharpshooting record at Camp Jefferson and rescuing students from the St. Louis Attack. While in St. Louis, she made sure to download Vault-Tec data from Vault 46.
    Story Arc 2 (Caesar's Lands)
Lex was unimpressed by the way of life in Caesar's Legion, though she wasn't as strongly opposed as Zero. She went out of her way to help the people of rural Missouri.
    Story Arc 3 (Gravestone)
She kept up her friendly and optimistic attitude on the journey to Gravestone. There were many troubling situations and complicated political situations, which she tried to keep out of. She accomplished the gunslinger challenge at the Jesse James Farm. At Reaver Manufacturing, a Reavers cultist helped Lex decrypt Vault-Tec data from Vault 46. She and Mr. Man learned the general nature of the Vault 40 experiment, but had many more questions.
    Story Arc 4 (Return Home)
The return trip to Emancipation was transformative for Lex. She won another shooting challenge at Lone Jack Guns. Ahd she saw much more darkness in the wasteland. Returning to Vault 40, she found that Professor Adabo was controlling and dictatorial. The vault was even worse to Mr. Man, wishing to damage his mind to protect their data. Lex had lost much of her innocence and couldn't look at her home in the same way. Emancipation was just as bad. Paladin Hector, who had acted so nobly in St. Louis, had left an occupying garrison in the village against the wishes of the townsfolk. Lex's attitude began to darken.
    Story Arc 5 (Traveling East)
The revelations at Earth Anchor station were even more disturbing to Lex. She learned that Mr. Man had once been an agent of The Enclave and that Mouse has sabotaged the station - clearly an agent of some unknown faction. The chaos of the Mississippi River region of Missouri and Illinois upset her even more, further eroding her faith in the Midwest Brotherhood of Steel and people in general.
    Story Arc 6 (Gamma Town)
Lex's slow march to disillusionment continued as they drew closer to Gamma Town. Enclave experiments, agents of The Capitol spreading propaganda and political tensions within the Midwest spelled trouble around every corner. But Lex kept her sense of ethics, helping the less fortunate wherever she went.
The trial of John Giscala was personal for Lex. Her aunt Alexa was at the forefront of the brawl. It was important for Lex to reign in her irascible aunt, so that Alexa would give diplomatic testimony on the stand.
Through the process of investigating Enclave activity, Alexa Garridan admitted that the higher-ups in Vault 40 had been specifically looking for an Enclave robot 32 years ago. Lex's father Dolion was ordered to find a salvageable unit with Enclave program, which he did - he recovered Mister Man. The party could tell that Alexa was holding back with her information. Lex found this frustrating and typical, but didn't press the issue.
    Story Arc 7 (Westward)
Lex was relieved that the Brotherhood tribunal, but her family's secrets, her vault's secrets and incursions into her life from The Enclave and strange Gen 2 Synths left her feeling betrayed. But with her vaultie chipper attitude, she endeavoured to keep helping the people of the Wasteland. Paladin Axion suggested heading to Flagstaff, to manipulate the election of Caesar's Legion's next leader. Their first stop westward was Gravestone where tensions had risen. Lex stayed with Paladin Evandre and crafted for the team while they delved into the politics of the city. She almost entirely missed how Zero and Linda entirely changed the society of Gravestone.
Alexandra Garridan found the culture of Caesar's Legion almost intolerable. The misogyny was off the charts, women did not hold citizenship and could not even hold property. Lex had to keep a medallion around her neck, indicating that her gender was male, despite her appearance. And the treatment of slaves was horrific. Caesar Aurelian and his mercantile allies congratulated themselves on their mercy, claiming to have improved the lives of slaves. But Lex found that rich and powerful citizens of Flagstaff could pay for whatever they wanted. And the Legion army officers prided themselves on their cruelty. For the first time, it was the others holding back her temper.
    Story Arc 8 (Enduring)
They were successful in Flagstaff. The warlike legionary faction of the Legion had been suppressed. They were now ruled by Caesar Altus, a committed reformer and mercantile. But Altus had also betrayed them. Mouse, Mister Zero and her oldest friend Mister Man were gone. Months of slowly walking across Texas were hard on her. The oppressive heat, and the filthy, friendless lifestyle was very different than life in the vault. Escaping into Dixie and taking the train northward was more about survival than her previous heroism. But they had managed to help people here and there, her heart hadn't changed entirely.
And she had become sick. Lex remembered Mister Man's Vault 40 data, and it was still on her Pip-Boy. The last Overseer of Vault 40 had described something called Genetic Disarray Syndrome. The genetic experiments done on the test subjects had disrupted the stability of their DNA's structure. Their modified genetic material had a way of falling apart, causing every tissue in the body to slowly liquify. Lex could feel herself getting sicker and sicker. Seeing her imminent death, she began to behave more recklessly, enjoying moments while she still could. While taking the train north, they had stopped at a restaurant in Louisiana. Meeting the proprietor, a big friendly man named Pascal, she made romantic advances. Pascal was amenable and they spent the night together. In the morning, he asked if she might stay. But, she decided to move on, leaving him behind. Similarly, Lex's gaze was caught by a woman riding the train. The woman was dressed in dark leathers and wore a wide-brimmed hat. She was athletic and held herself with competence. Lex approached seductively, and the woman invited her back to a private train car. It was only after the two had enjoyed each other that this woman began to talk about herself. Her name was Dominica, she was a loyal citizen of The Capitol and was travelling to Texas on an important mission for Great Leader. A bit embarrassed about becoming entangled with a fascist, Lex brushed Dominica off. Dominica, already developing feeling for Lex, was insulted.
In Memphis, Lex was set upon by three Gen 2 Synths. These assailants flew in, one of them in jet pack power armor carrying the others. The Synths attack Arminius, Linda and Lex, with great skill. The party were outclassed, and Lex surrendered. This offended Arminius, but Lex convinced him. The power armored Synth scooped up Lex and flew away with her.
    Story Arc 9 (Kentucky Dam)
She was taken to a strange airship, apparently operated by servants of The Puppetmaster. There she was experimented on and then discarded. She found herself on a cart in The Capitol, escorted by a man named Niramay. He was part of the Children of Atom, illegal in The Capitol, which was being used as blackmail against him. If he did not get Lex to Kentucky Dam, his whole congregation would be outed. He got Lex as far as Tradewater Bend, but the Correctors there murdered him. Lex scrambled the rest of the way to the dam, where the Midwest team took her in.
    Story Arc 10 (Betrayal)
Lex found a troubled rest on the dam. Professor Gritch and the other higher-ups in Vault 40 like Professor Adabo and John Giscala had let her walk out into the wasteland with no idea about the Vault 40 experiment, her potentially lethal Genetic Disarray Syndrome, or her family's involvement with The Enclave. When the party found her, there was some relief. But the next day, they wanted to travel into The Capitol which Lex had just almost died escaping. She was unimpressed by the way of life in The Capitol and was unimpressed with Colonel Braxton. Her relationship with Professor Gritch was permanently weakened, and they wore on each other.
    Story Arc 11 (War!)
Travelling out of The Capitol was difficult. Lex was concerned for the people of The Capitol, but not eager to waste time and get caught. After viewing another horrible human experiment at Vault 52, she came in conflict with Professor Gritch. Her mentor demanded that the party cross the radioactive river with him, knowing that his ghoul body would be safer than many of the others. Lex wasn't having it, and let him leave on his own.
