Medicine, Drugs and Poisons
In our world, and surely yours as well, you will come across different substances that can affect a human, or rather mole person’s body in different ways. Some of these are beneficial, and others not so much. While some may heal you, others may make you sick or even kill you. All of these substances fall into one or another category of medicine, drugs or poison. At first glance you may think that the difference between a medicine and poison should be obvious, but the lines between them are more often than not blurred. As a wise man of the ancient times once said: "everything is a poison, it only depends on the dosage" . However, there are some important details you have to keep in mind, to tell the three apart.
Medicine
Medicines are substances intended to improve one’s well being. They can be used in any case of a person not feeling well or falling ill with one of the other mental or physical ailment. These may be anything from herbal teas, pills, lotions, essential oils or powders you can add to your food, drinks or use in some other way. They may be used in many different ways from being ingested, to being put on an injured part of your body or anything in between. Medicines are made and sold exclusively by fairies in herbal gardens. Fairies there grow their own herbs and know very well how to use them. They don’t only know what herbs and how to use them to make medicine, but are usually also familiar with ways to make drugs and poisons and how they work. Of course, they are only to use this knowledge to further familiarize themselves with all the plants and their properties, and to know what herbs will work against poisoning with other types of plants. They won’t produce and sell any drugs or poisons in herbal gardens, but if you know someone like a weirdo moth fairy from T@Ö#Å3, they might make you something. Though of course, even medicinal substances may sometimes have some interesting side effects. It's these side effects where the line between medicine and drugs get blurred, and you may find many heatlhy people buying this medicine just for it's side effects.
Drugs
Drugs fall roughly in the middle of the spectrum between medicine and poison. Very strictly they are described as substances that don’t have a particular long term beneficial or detrimental effect to one’s mental or physical health, though that’s not always the case. Drugs may have certain short term emotion altering effects, others may cause more or less severe hallucinations, and some even claim they spoke to God while on drugs. This might just be true, because you could very easily die if you take the wrong drug and then you will surely find yourself before Glitter God and Satan. With drugs being mainly prevalent in East T@Ö#Å3, it’s good to be careful though. There, you will very likely find drugs mixed with suspicious and mildly poisonous substances, and because of this drugs themselves are falling more into the category of harmful substances. The XXXX drink in particular is notorious for containing straight up poison, and not even Satan himself knows what exactly is wrong with people who smoke random plants they find growing from cracks at the sides of the roads.
This is also probably the reason why people more and more avoid doing drugs; it’s something not worth the risk and something only insane weirdos would do. Drugs are now mainly only sold back and forth between drug dealers through drug MLMs who brag about strange and fantastical effects their drugs supposedly have, but only few are insane enough to try them and see what happens. Their experiences vary from mildly underwhelming to unexpected random instant death. The latter, usually referred to URID, is what makes drugs more closely related to poisons. Many PSAs in T@Ö#Ä3 warn you about this exact thing and advise you only take drugs from drug dealers you know and trust - ideally one that makes their own drugs and owns their own garden with plants they need to make their drugs. The more times a drug gets sold and resold between people, less likely you are to get actual accurate information about it.
There is a lot less drug dealers to be found in Ä+*4~, but they are also more likely to sell you so called "clean drugs", ones with no harmful side effects.
However, in both Ä+*4~ and T@Ö#Ä3 you'll find many people using completely random substances as drugs, such as Cereal Killer getting some bath salts in 5-L. You are advised against doung stuff like that, but people who do that aren't the ones to listen to any advice or warnings anyway.
Poisons
Poisons may seem to be at the opposite spectrum of drugs, but you’d be surprised how closely related they are. Most poisons are really just incorrectly prepared drugs or medicines - only a small mistake in dosage or use of a wrong herb may turn something from a medication to poison. These mishaps are very unlikely to happen with highly trained fairies in herbal gardens, but are more common in anything you get from any non-fairy person. This is more of a problem with drugs, because there really are no regulations and standards for those; it’s all really left up to the creativity and experimentation of sketchy people in T@Ö#Ä3.
But besides drugs and medicine gone wrong, there are many kinds of poison, made specifically with the intention of producing a toxic substance. Many use these for specific purposes, from pranks and challenges to people using them for some kind of a strange plan to get their way, or to manipulate others. For this reason, you’ll want to know exactly what you’re buying and what effect it has, and so poisons are just as controlled as medicine. You won’t get them in any regular store, but moth fairies and trusted drug dealers will be able to provide you with what you want and need. On the hush-hush, of course; no one would want to be caught buying or selling poison, and these substances are usually sold in sketchy places such as Neon Maze. Though there is no law against producing, distributing or using drugs and poisons per se, be prepared to expect some form of revenge from the person you’re trying to poison. Only resort to poisoning someone as an absolute last resort and if you know very well what you’re doing and why you’re doing it.
