Homunculus

Where did they come from?

In today’s world, you’ll mostly see moles and fairies, maybe bat people if you know where to look. All these people are well adjusted and properly functioning - you wouldn’t guess that the origins of their species were quite messy. In T@Ö#Å3 you may encounter freaks, a still living proof of many mistakes that happened all those years ago while creating a new species. Genetic defects that came as a consequence of trial and error while creating a new species, better adjusted to the new living situation, still persist in the species of moles to this day. But if even the freaks are, well, as freaky as they are, what could possibly be the other old species, the ones that were so malfunctioning and terrifying that the world decided to forget about them? Well, while a great majority of them died out long ago, there is one that survived, and still lives in our world today - this is no other than the dreaded homunculus.

As we already know, our species of mole people came about as a result of crossing humans with various other animal species. Moles are a hybrid of humans, naked mole rats and olms, but people tried mixing together other animal species as well. No one knows for sure anymore the product of what animals exactly the homunculus was, but it’s more than clear that this species was a grotesquely misguided and failed attempt at a new species. People of the past decided it was best to destroy each and every single one of them, but as it seems, some of them survived. It is believed that Satan himself protected and preserved them, while keeping their existence and survival even from Glitter God.

Homunculus today

Homunculi today, or at least the version of them that survived to this day, are pretty small - they reach only up to 20cm in height. They have pale skin, strange, underdeveloped legs that only curve back without feet, and weirdly large hands. They have small menacing beady eyes and a terrifying round mouth with sharp teeth. Though they look pretty creepy, they aren’t very dangerous. They live deep in Haunted Forest, away from the people. There they hide away, as they are actually afraid of moles. Sure they have creepy teeth, but moles are after all much bigger than them.

All of them seem to look very similar to each other, they’re hairless and don’t have many very explicit defining features that would tell them apart from each other. They all seem to be genderless completely and not much is known about how they reproduce. They are occasionally found in eggs, so apparently they lay eggs.

Not much more is known about their lifestyle or diet.

The mystery

Apart from occasional sightings that are usually discredited or debunked, not much is known about homunculi. They are believed to only live in Haunted Forest, though they have been seen elsewhere too. We know nothing about their diet, behavior and other abilities. Some think that they may or may not possess some supernatural abilities, and are capable of bringing misfortune onto anyone who may dare to kill or harm one of them. None of that has been actually confirmed though and are believed to be coincidences or completely fabricated stories.

With their existence itself being unconfirmed, they are considered more or less a cryptid in our world. As such, they are subject to speculation, many stories, photos and video, many of which have already been debunked. Especially in parts of T@Ö#Å3 close to Haunted Forest, they are an important part of folklore and people don’t shy away at all from cashing in on the mystery of this elusive creature.
