Lord / Lady

A lord fills a mainly economic role in the feudal world, they control usually a single village or small town and are responsible for taxing the citizens, funding their terrirories' expendatures with said tax money and paying tax of their own further up the hirearchal chain, to their respective Baronship.
A lord's gender usually defines their specific title (lord for males, lady for females), but this is not law. A woman is allowed to refer to themselves as 'lord' if they are either single, or in a homosexual relationship. Similarly, in a male homosexual relationship, it is expected for one of the wedded to take the 'lady' title. This piece of legislation was introduced mainly for bookkeeping reasons, to prevent there being two 'lords' in a household.
Lords are permitted the privelidge to grant knightood on their subjects.
