Microimpact Engines

Microimpact engines utilize a constant stream of small impacts to produce kinetic energy. They are almost exclusively used to provide power to extremely heavy vehicles designed for use on sand.
Parent Technologies
Access & Availability
Microimpact engines are generally only useful in sandy or otherwise excessively gritty terrain, and as such have only seen much use in The Arid, particularly in Zawal, where constrictor tanks powered by the devices are commonly used by small crews of legionnaires to patrol the desert. This limitation in functionality prevents it's use elsewhere, but the basic concept has spread across the continent to inspire similar technologies, such as the Gwelin ice-eater or the Confederate woodchipper.
Complexity
Most machines powered by microimpact engines need to be moving to work, so starting the engines can be difficult. This initial "powering up" is typically done by using terran batteries to provide an initial burst of powerful kinetic energy.
Discovery
Mechanics in The Arid were frustrated with the necessity of tidal engines to power heavy vehicles like dreadnoughts, as in parts of The Arid water can be hard to come by, and such a vehicle would require large quantities of it. A team of Bazir mechanics tasked with modifying the continuous tracks of Imperial linemaker ships for desert warfare developed the technology to take advantage of the large amounts of grit thrown up by the heavy landships.
