Never Part From Your Lads

Written by Barron

Overview

Never Part From Your Lads is a Marching Song taken to by Somnolent foot soldiers in training.   It was both a message and a tool. The Apple of Hedonism are well known to use Auric meta to demoralize and sometimes kill off unprepared foes. These mages held the power to control and impart crippling depression and even suicidal thoughts like one can pull the trigger on a gun.   This song was a warning against separating from your crew, who can assist you if assaulted by an Auric Mage. This tune itself comes from a long lineage of human culture. Following the Battle Hymn of the Republics tempo, the song makes for an excellent military tune and can often be heard when lingering near Somnolent military acadamies. Veterans of the Somnolent Military also cherish the song as part of their history, often harking back to it with comrades both Veteran and Active.

Inspiration

Sung to the tempo of "Blood Upon the Risers" or "The Battle Hymn of the Republic."

Lyrics

Our hero was a young face, nice and fresh to the Corps
He prepped his gear and held his cross in the heart of war
He leapt up from the dropship in a wave of battle roars
And he won't fight on no more

Hedon, Hedon, what a horrible way to go
Hedon, Hedon, what a horrible way to go
Hedon, Hedon, what a horrible way to go
Yet we always keep fighting on

He ran into the fray, he never once held back his pace
He found himself alone, he found himself an easy prey
A Hedon auric mage began to root around his brain
And he won't fight on no more

Hedon, Hedon, what a horrible way to go
Hedon, Hedon, what a horrible way to go
Hedon, Hedon, what a horrible way to go
Yet we always keep fighting on

He thought of home, he thought of everyone he left behind
He thought of why the battle was a festering death cry
He was cajoled into suicidal privies on the fly
And he won't fight on no more

Hedon, Hedon, what a horrible way to go
Hedon, Hedon, what a horrible way to go
Hedon, Hedon, what a horrible way to go
Yet we always keep fighting on

He felt the dread, he felt the meta gripping at his core
He grasped his gun, he raised it to the center of his fore
He pulled the trigger and let loose the fire of our Lord
And he won't fight on no more

Hedon, Hedon, what a horrible way to go
Hedon, Hedon, what a horrible way to go
Hedon, Hedon, what a horrible way to go
Yet we always keep fighting on

His brains plastered his helm, his blood ran rivers in the sand
He never stood a chance when he grew parted from his lads
Remember our fair hero when you tread boots on the land
And he won't fight on no more

Hedon, Hedon, what a horrible way to go
Hedon, Hedon, what a horrible way to go
Hedon, Hedon, what a horrible way to go
Yet we always keep fighting on
