Ginji Yasujiro
(a.k.a. "Canopy")
In his youth, Ginji was orphaned by an incident that was never truly resolved which involved some sort of debt collection gone wrong between his parents and a number of unknown individuals. He was brought under the care of a sect of Nal'tua druids interested in experimentation of the natural order. On his sixteenth birthday, he was presented an offer to undergo a study involving transfusions of Nal'tua blood into a non-Nal'tua species. Out of a group of sixty test subjects, Ginji was one of seven survivors of this experiment, which resulted in a change of color in his right eye and a strange bark like growth in his left arm that starts at his shoulder and reaches the back of his hand. The constant maintenance of this "tree man" syndrome of his began to wear at his personal morale, until he became resolved in trying to discover a Ley Font in hopes that the acquisition of powers would cure his condition. He, however, never found a Font, but was instead led to one that had been found centuries prior by the druidic order that took him in, which they had protected from being absorbed throughout that time span. The leader of the druidic Nal'tua sect, after witnessing the catastrophe left in the wake of a new Rippleghast threat and the end of her lifespan soon approaching, believed it was worth allowing Ginji to acquire the energies of their sacred Font in hope to correct their past errors which led to his mutation, while also bestowing him abilities to combat the sudden rise in population of Rippleghasts.
Powers
Acquiring power from the Font unfortunately was not a cure for Ginji's condition, but it did allow him to control and manipulate it. By possibly enhancing the Nal'tua blood in his system, Ginji was granted shape shifting abilities on par with, even exceeding the natural capacity of the druids, but it functions far differently. Where the female Nal'tua were limited only to specific animal species to shift into, Ginji gained the ability to take any form of his choosing, including fantastical or surreal concepts, living creatures or inanimate objects. These new shapes and forms, however, are limited in that no matter his new shape, size, or purpose, he always appears as if he is made of tree bark when assuming any form other than his own. Atop of this, he is constantly able to see and feel the very essence of nature, and can understand the will of the earth. Through such, he can sense disturbances in things and predict natural disasters. Thus, he is able to communicate with plants in a type of biological empathy, as the plants do not 'speak' to him, they just seem to grant him understanding and vice versa.
