Fey Prince Valyn
Once a member of the River Court royal family of the Summer’s Dream, Fey Prince Valyn is the son of Queen Minera and brother to Prince Thalian and Princess Velatharn. After centuries of squabbling with his family over their lack of interest in Al'Madoon, the Architect creations outside the Summer’s Dream, Prince Valyn attempted to over throw the River Court and take his place as king.
Young and foolish, the Fey Prince was easily defeated and expelled, forcing Valyn to take residence in the Wyld to recover. While reconsidering his position and searching for answers, the Fey Prince would cross paths with Gwy’nael, a mighty Archdruid who emulates bird of prey to provide sight beyond sight. A member of the Wood Wards, an order that pledges themselves to Thayriel, the Keen Eyed, Gwy’nael befriended the Fey Prince, showing him the destruction Hrólfr, the Ancient Wolf had brought to the Trance.
Witnessing the carnage left behind and learning of the Ancient Wolf’s release by Magnus Darkshield, the Valyn began to search for a means to aid the people of Erenel. With the War of Wolf and Stag on the brink, Fey Prince Valyn took drastic measures, administering the Wilting Cough to the people of Wayford, believing he could bring them closer to the Architect and rescue them from the fires of war.
Wayford Plague
Wayford, a small town on the edge of the Shimmerwood Forest, was recently gripped by the Wilting Cough Plague. As discovered by the Sunrise Court, the Wilting Cough was Fey Prince Vayln's attempt to enrich the mortals of Erenel and bring them closer to Al'Madoon. After showing the Fey Prince the error of his ways, the Wayford Plague was immediately ceased, and any still under the plague's influence was freed.Wilting Cough
A foul parasitic illness that takes host in the stomach of an infected humanoid or beast. A seedling is planted in the individual's stomach from breathing pollen of the Fey, priming the individual. A primed individual who consumes the contaminated water in Wayford will then contract the Wilting Cough as the water activates the seedling. When affected by Wilting Cough, a victim no longer benefits from food or drink. Instead, anything they consume feeds the parasitic seedling growing in their stomach. This leads to the victim dying of starvation, dehydration, internal hemorrhaging, and coughing as the sapling burrows into their internal organs.
Though they do not understand why, they will feel ravenous, as all the food they eat only temporarily fills them. After 3 days, a victim begins coughing, will start coughing blood and suffering internal hemorrhaging and extreme pain as the seedling swells and begins rooting itself into their organs. The parasite has taken complete hold of their nervous system, and they are bedridden unable to move. The coughing has become more extreme, and it is not far until they are killed.
Within 24 hours of dying, their body will become reanimated temporarily as the parasite inside them takes them to a tree far from civilization. It attaches the body to the tree trunk as it forms a cocoon. The seedling begins mulching down the body of its host as it goes through its metamorphosis from seedling to Valyn Sapling.
Physical Description
Body Features
Fey Prince Vayln resembles an enormous 30-foot-long wolf seemingly sculpted from plant life. Instead of fur, his body is overgrown with interwoven foliage. The Fey Prince’s body seems to be made of fibrous bark, which extends into limbs, ending in claws of bone.
Valyn's Goals
The powerful but naïve Fey Prince has assembled the Sunrise Court to assist him in the goals outlined below.
- Push back any remaining threats from Hrólfr, the Ancient Wolf
- Take a more hands on approach to better the children the Architect
- Spread the teachings of Gwyn'ael, a mighty Archdruid and friend who emulates birds of prey to provide sight beyond sight.
