Cellular Degeneration
Condition
A medical condition which is feared by someNonlethal injury to a cell may produce cell degeneration, which is manifested as some abnormality of biochemical function, a recognizable structural change, or a combined biochemical and structural abnormality. Degeneration is reversible but may progress to necrosis if injury persists.
Sustained high G-forces have impact on the human body with lasting effects if there is not enough rest between periods.
it is however not the G force that inflicts the condition. recent research has determined that it is also related to the ION Drive that disrupts the balance within the cells.
Transmission & Vectors
the ION drive accelerates the degrading of cells.
Causes
long term (weeks) exposure to the ION drive and egular high 2+ G-forces without periods of rest.
Symptoms
A patient suffering from the condition will bruise easy, become tired and feel sour. The bruises are painfull. If prolonged the patient will suffer from deteriorating control over finer motor skills. (nerve endings will gradually break down)
In severe cases the patient will have malfunctioning bodyparts ending in vital loss of body functions.
Treatment
treatment can be as simple as taking rest for a period of time. if that is not possible the patient can go into stasis,
The use of hydroliquid inhibitors initially prevent the degeneration for several hours, but usage is not recommended.
There is a new technology available at the United Empire of Earth called NanoBots that seems to mitigate the effects.
Prognosis
if treated (rest) is done in time, there will be no permament damage.
Sequela
if not treated the cells will become weaker and progress to necrosis.
Prevention
enough rest between the periods of high G. There is no effective protection in relation to the ION engine
History
the degrading effect of high G was already known in the 90's when huamity used fighter jets. in rare occasions a pilot might have some physical problems.
note: fighter pilots where very well trained, especially for high G maneuvring. The needed special suits, gear and equipment to deal with high-G forces on a structural level as high as 9 G!
