Yselda Sun-Kissed

Rose Commander, Captain of the Royal Guard, Maiden of Thorns Yselda Sun-Kissed

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Yselda was born to Edmure and Tatiova Kelris, previous nobility of Aldrané. Her older brother Breccor was born a Foul Blood and cast his family down from their aristocratic status. Edmure and Tatiova did everything they could, including disowning the boy and making a sizable contribution to the Queen's favorite charities. With such ameliorative actions taken, the family was excommunicated instead of executed. The two relocated nearby to Varkart where Yselda was born four years later.   She was groomed from that point on to restore her family's name so they could return to their ancestral home. What little money the Kelris' took with them across the Emberbarren sea was used to pay for Yselda's entry and tutoring to the finest martial academies in the Western Settlements. She spent fourty years training with world-class fighters, including a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to train with Ayara Kaiska and Iollan Ryyd at the same time during a four-month long cooperative seminar jointly hosted by the Phassan Dueling School and the The Last Chance Lancers.   Unlike other capable fighters her age, Yselda turned down every offer from adventurers guilds, and task forces. With unyielding focus, she kept her sights on Aldrané and the one position that could rescue her family's name: the Royal Guard. The Court of Thorns is an elite group of operatives entrusted to complete assignments given directly by Queen Veldera'an, they often accompany her as a personal attaché for excursions and covert ops. They also have a reputation for coming from a variety of social spheres, ex-criminals or noble lords, the only thing that matters is their performance and precision.   Without a formal application process, Yselda had no choice but to charter a boat from Varkart to Aldrané and hope. When she arrived, Yselda was identified and then promptly arrested. She spent two months in a quiet, dark cell by herself with only a single phrase uttered to her captors: Bring me your best. Eventually, her words caught the attention of the Queen herself, who transferred her from the prison to the Emerald Keep for private judgment. The exact details of that day have been kept a tightly guarded secret for over twenty years, and Yselda herself has been sworn to secrecy. What is known is that she demanded trial by combat and proved herself in front of the Blood Rose.   Since joining the Court of Thorns, she has become the Queen's most fervent protector and most trusted lieutenant. As far as the crown was concerned, the only thing wrong with her was her connection to the Kelris family, a name that was all but wiped from the face of Aldrané for the crime of their bastard boy. To remedy it, the Queen granted Yselda with a new name, one to reflect the poetry of her fall and rise, as well as the poetry of her movements on the battlefield. She was called Yselda Sun-Kissed, from that day on.
