Foul-Blood

Basic Information

Anatomy

Foul-Bloods are often confused for Tieflings given their long horns, or Dragonborn for their hard scale-like plates. There are a few key differences that can help to distinguish them, however: Foul-Blood horns droop sharply down and at an angle, curving as if a crescent. Their scales as well form in large, discrete patches along their shoulders and backs instead of covering the body completely. It is often the case that a Foul-Blood is mistaken for many things before an onlooker realizes who or what they have encountered, ever present in the world yet absent from the minds of those that lead it.

Genetics and Reproduction

The Foul-Bloods are possibly the newest race of creatures in Eniea. One thousand years ago, during the cataclysm known as The Impetus, corrupting magical energy stained all things. From that energy emerged the first Foul-Bloods, strange creatures theorized to be part elf, devil, and dragon--among other things. They first appeared in the northwestern portion of Themeria, but they are now found all throughout the known world.   The presence of Foul-Blood genetics in a bloodline can be faint and difficult to detect, even two full-blooded elves produce a Foul-Blood child from time to time. The trait is highly recessive and almost any humanoid species can produce Foul-Blood children. Despite it being rare to produce a child this way, it appears that Elves, specifically the Elves of the The Sister States have the highest likelihood of giving birth to a Foul-Blood. Because of this, they are often seen as a sign of bad luck or divine punishment within old noble families, the sight of such a child can jeopardize their aristocratic status. Foul-Bloods are so publically repudiated that families that do produce them often exile them to the forests of the Nightveil Canopy to avoid scrutiny, scorn, and mockery.

Growth Rate & Stages

Foul-Bloods reach adulthood in around 33 years. Once adults, Foul-Bloods appear to age incredibly slowly, their bodies undergoing the same process of aging a typical human would but over the course of the next 300 or so years.

Behaviour

Despite historic mistreatment from other races, Foul-Blood culture remains fairly cosmopolitan, their small communities are widely dispersed across the world and encourage interaction and trade. Their appearances garner antipathy in those that they encounter and even the most golden-hearted of Foul-Bloods becomes isolated and jaded with age. Contemporarily, they are commonly seen as abominations who are closer to beasts or monsters than anything civilized. Foul-Bloods are pariahs above all else and are met with scorn or contempt wherever they go. Some have overcome their cynicism through practice and meditation, though they are, by a wide margin, the exception and not the rule.
