Ramerian Remnant

The last remnant of the continent-spanning Ramerian Empire, this autonomous nation is mainly comprised of old military bases on the various bases around the Ramerian continent.

A Brief Overview

The Ramerian Remnant is a non-contiguous federation of various military commanders, their soldiers and their bases, formed after the fall of the Empire. These men couldn't return to the continent, since veterans were treated with great distaste, forcing them to adapt on the islands that were far away enough from the mainland to be safe from the Successor States.
This also means that their military is only slightly smaller than the civilian populace it lords over. Even though the entire government is comprised of former officers, there is an active attempt to increase the civilian portion of the nation.
They consider all Successor States illegitimate and a rightful part of their nation, and they rely on aid from the New Republic.

Founding

When the Godhammer detonated, the general staff knew that it would lead to massive unrest on the mainland: the populace was already war-weary and many institutions threatened to stop supporting the war. As such, they moved as many assets to the heavily fortified islands before the news spread.
When the first nation declared independence, Grand Vailia, instead of attempting to defend their mainland holdings, they continued in their effort to get as many resources as possible away from their old home.
On the 7th of , the Empire was officially dissolved and the Remnant was formed. Lead by the generals, they started building more civilian settlements within their territory and attempt to rebuild their navy. In the first few months, many people migrated there: mainly families of soldiers who were now shunned and war-supporters who were now considered traitors, but also simply patriots.

Culture

Due to the large portion of military personnel in their population, the culture itself is very martial and spartan. Money is only spent where it has to be and most hobbies are either martial (e.g. Hand-to-hand combat, Archery) or do not require many resources to be spent (e.g. Carving, Running).
Loyalty is incredibly important to them and corruption is generally frowned upon. Crimes are punished a lot more severely than in most other nations, and government officials who are found embezzling resources are either killed or exiled.

Architecture

New Buildings of the Remnant are very simplistic and almost never feature murals or other frivolities. Whitewash can still regularly be seen, in first line in the northern provinces, since it serves as additional heat insulation.
Many statues and relics of older buildings were sold to wealthy nobles, leaving many temples and palaces to appear rather bleak.

Diplomatic Relations

All Successor States are considered illegitimate by the Remnant, and as such have hostile relations with them. This mainly manifests in their expeditions being attacked on sight when drawing too close to Ramerian military bases. While none of the major nations trade with them, many private individuals still do so in order to make a profit, oftentimes utilizing smugglers to do so.
The New Republic provides aid for them, importing food and other required resources to the various outposts. This has caused outrage from the Successor States, but due to the Peace of Roses, their hands are tied, and they can't prevent their steamers from delivering their goods. The reason for their aid is that the devils seem incredibly frigthened of the Godhammer, and granted them aid in exchange for ensuring the destruction of all knowledge related to it.

Military

Navy

The Ramerian Navy is still sizable, even though many of their warships were sunk on Trelas V. Large parts of their remaining resources go into rebuilding it to its former glory, hoping to be able to defeat the Successor States on the sea, setting up an eventual re-invasion of the mainland.
Much of their mobilised navy consists of smaller, faster vessels that can outrun Vailian military patrols while still being able to take on less-defended convoys.

Military

The Ramerian Military is entirely professional. Since the largest parts of the government is made up of (former) military officers, they know just which legislations and areas are the most important and useful for a strong army.
Almost the entire civilian populace is also training with whatever weapons they have, since everyone is expected to defend their village and soldiers get a good wage.
Due to the many veterans within the military, their force is extremely adaptable, something they have proven through various skirmrishes with Grand Vailia, who attempted to take their islands from them. They oftentimes won battles even when grossly outnumbered.
