Cortez can take on features of a turkey vulture, primarily the head, beak and wings. He is able to shift his arms into wings but rarely does so, his flight awkward and choppy. His avian form affords him the keen smell of a vulture, especially sensitive to the scent of of decay.

He can craft toxins and poisons of his own invention, primarily utilizing this for anesthesia but is also an apt assassin. His skills as a poison craftsman is mediocre at best.
Doctor Cortez is the head of the Medical Staff alongside leading the Medic training program. He also happens to be the uncle of Florio Espina, heir to House Espina. While considered an apt doctor by the kingdom, Lily Desjardins considers him inept, ignorant and completely ill suited to his position. She struggles not to expose herself every time she sees his messy techniques and carelessness. Cortez is rather flamboyant and dramatic, Aldric suspecting Florio likely picked these same tendencies from his uncle. Florio looks up to Cortez considerably despite the fact that he surpassed his uncle long ago. Florio finds his uncle charming and tries to emulate him, whether he deserves this admiration or not.
Appearance
Cortez is slender and long limbed, spindly even. He has long, lustrous black hair and dark eyes, though his magic form grants him red eyes which he prefers. With a handsome face and charming smile, he is sought after by a number of younger coworkers. However, he is sensitive about his appearance when manifesting. His form gives him the face of a turkey vulture and his arms can become wings. It is quite dramatic but he finds his form completely unattractive. He dresses as flamboyantly as he behaves, often covering up the less attractive features of his form with big hats and goggles. He often resembles a plague doctor for this reason. He will keep these on his person when not manifesting but he is known for his dramatic flair.

Cortez oversees the training and curriculum of the medical recruits and is their head doctor and surgeon. This keeps him quite busy and he is glad to be able to entrust the clinic to his latest "protoge", Lily Desjardins. He is wholly unaware of her distaste for him or just how severely her medical skills outclass his own. In reality, Cortez is expected to retire from his position soon so that he can attend to his duties as Marquis. He is drawing out his career in avoidance, knowing as soon as he returns to Accia he will be expected to marry and sire an heir. He continues to put this off for as long as he can, enjoying the adventurous life of a Procession Staff for as long as possible, especially now that his nephew has become a recruit!
