Elysium Age of Discovery

While the Sorcerer-Kings of old continue their centuries long slumber, the lands of the Republic of New Elysium hang in a tenuous peace after the death of long time ruler Arch Mage Voula Arvanitoti several years ago. She was famed for uniting the people of New Elysium and driving back the Anak Sea Raiders nearly 84 years ago. She had been heavily involved with talks of peace and forming a union with the Māraroan Kingdom and the Ancozia Triumvirate, but following her death the talks quickly fell apart.   After years of deliberation, the Court of Sorcerers has elected a new Arch Mage to bring the people of the Republic to glory. A man by the name of Cronus Kollias, he is said to be one of the most skilled living masters of the Legacy and a brilliant tactician, he is famed for leading the Siege of Demyros and single handedly defeated an entire battalion of Anak raiders. As the Fractal Order weaved his name into the Legacy and declared him Arch Mage of the Republic, he proclaimed that the world has shifted into a new age, leaving behind the Age of Solace and entering into an Age of Discovery. Since then, he has promised any Praetorian who sets out to lands unknown with fame and fortune beyond their wildest dreams should they return with knowledge or treasure that helps secure the future of the Republic.   As the Arch Mage sets out on his own expeditionary fleet to lands unknown, the Court of Sorcerers attempts to fix the magical workings that have started to fail across the lands. Rumors flow through the streets talking about a strange new cult on the rise that has many in the Court believing the two to be linked. Meanwhile, adventurous settlers are setting out to the Woods of Moros, attempting to conquer the lands long thought to be under a curse. Countless failed settlements dot the lands and stories bounce between tarverns as bards tell tales speaking of foul magic and creatures not from this world that roam its lands, corrupting all who enter. Those sentenced to be exiled in these woods often beg for the mercy of execution, the few exiles who have managed to cross back into civilized lands have been found to resemble nothing more than mindless shells of who they used to be.   Outside the Republic on the island nation of Matomāraroa, its shipwrights are busy at work as they near the completion of their first set of ironwood hulled ships. Harvested from its famed enchanted forests, this magically enhanced material is said to not only be as hard as wrought iron and capable of withstanding the crushing blows of the Maw, but also immune to the effects of the Barrier of Omiros. Merchant trading companies, exploration guilds, and private expedition captains have their hands full as they select a lucky few to crew their ships from the swarm of hundreds of hopeful individuals who have flocked to the port city of Aukati.   While the Matomāraroans gets ready to set out to seas unknown, the Kingdom of Ancozia gets ready to set out for lands long forgotten. Famed for its feats of engineering, the Kingdom of Ancozia claim to be nearing completion of a decades long project to build a mechanical lift capable of bringing a dozen pathfinders and their pack animals up through the Barrier of Omiros and up to the lands of Old Elysium. However only the most famed heros (or ones with the right connections) have any hope of being able to make the day long journey up the several mile high cliff face which surrounds the Great Basin of Xenia.
Thank you for visiting Latter Earth Iterum 915 Rightous Flame, otherwise known as Elysium! This is a work-in-progress world setting for the RPG Worlds without Number by Kevin Crawford. It is very much a working draft so please excuse any typos or inconsitences.
