Ancozia Triumvirate

The Ancozia Triumvirate is the largest dwarven nation in the Great Basin of Xenia and the second most populous nation. Formed in the early 5th century, the Ancozia Triumvirate has remained the dominant power in the northern region of the Great Basin and one of the only nations to maintain major population centers within the depths of Old Elysium. The Triumvirate is made up of 15 dwarven houses who control various parts of Alta Soniera, the Ancozian capital city, and the surrounding areas; these houses elect three people from three different houses to lead the nation and bring about a Great Plan that will bring about glory and prosperity to their people.   Early dwarven settlers left the New Elysium mainland around the early 2nd century, slowly colonizing across the islands along the northern Aris Sea until they reached modern-day Ancozia. In the late 4th century, hundreds of dwarven houses had settled across the lands of Ancozia after driving out bands of Anakim that were native to its lands. Shortly after in 512 AR the Ancozian Kingdom was formed with an elected High King. Soon conflict would erupt as many houses saw the rule of the High King as little more than political theater. Over the course of a century, numerous dwarven houses were either conquered, consolidated, or simply lost until only 15 remained. Despite a century of conflict, little blood had been spilled. The heads of the dwarven houses had little desire to impact their numbers which were small at the time. Instead they battled through skill of the mind.

Structure

The Triumvirate

Every half-generation, or 20 years, the Triumvirate enters into a Year of Reflection to assess how well the nation has accomplished the goals of the Great Plan and assess the leadership of the Triumvirate itself. Little is actually accomplished during this year beyond the bare minium for the society to properly function. The majority of dwarves spend this year relaxing or traveling between the Clan Holds of each Great House, attending feasts and other parties. The Great Houses tend to use this time to try and sway others to their side, and vote for their Elder to sit on the Triumvirate in the Chamber of Truth.   The actual election occurs during the 6th month of the year, all citizens of the Ancozia Triumvirate are granted a vote, and do so by ranking the 15 Great Houses in order of who they wish to lead them. Once these are properly talled, the top three house Elders are elected to the Triumvirate, gaining the title Triumvir. For the following 6 months, the Triumvirs determine what the new Great plan will be and present it to the entire nation at the conclusion of a month long celebration.

Lesser Houses

Any dwarven family head can found their own house so long as they gain the permission of the Great House they swear fealty to. Typically only those with significant city-holdings or renknown are granted their own house name. While possible for a lesser house to make a play for a Great House title, such an event has not occured in centuries and would be unlikley to receive much support.

House Heads

In the majority of Ancozian dwarven houses, the House Head, or the Elder of the House, is voted on by well respected members of the house who hold significant political power, rather than being passed down to direct kin. It is the job of each Elder to determine a Plan for their house, typically aligning their plan with the Great Plan followed by all members of the Ancozia Triumvirate.

History

Dwarves   Classic dwarves in style, but with a bit of an Italian renaissance makeover   Culture very similar to dwarves as described in rulebook   Run by a Triumvirate who each represent an aspect of cultural significance - Logic, Unity, Sacrifice - these individuals construct a great plan to be followed   Failures of great plans typically result in significant fracturing and civil war, current leaders have managed to achieve great success and hold lots of popularity right now   Build their cities along the cliff side of their domain while the majority of land is reserved for defense against foreign invaders/farming   Have been building a mechanical lift to reach the top of Old Elysium for the past several generations
