Massacre at Armath

The Conflict

Prelude

Having successfully fused the horn of Orcus to Amon's body, the Gate Watch were ready to execute the final phase of their plan. The night before the mission to destroy Yeenoghu, Kaspian Armathor urged the Armathora to throw a final feast for brave warriors embarking on a journey to the The Abyss.   During this celebration, the Gate Watch exercise restraint and none of them participate in the imbibement of alcohol. A handful or arcanists in the Gate Watch finalize a summoning circle contained within a secret room in Armath, this would allow Orcus's chief exarch, Soneillon to travel to the material plane and assist in the ambush. By the next morning, the majority of the Armathora are exhausted, hungover or still drunk from the night before. After bidding farewell to the assault team, Kaspian signals the Gate Watch through their signets and the ambush begins.

The Engagement

Few of the Armathora within Armath have a chance to react, and most are butchered on the spot by the Arcanists of Tenebra's arrows, blades and the surprising arrival of Soneillon. Artigan Armathor is pinned to a pillar with arrows, while Remythra Armathor is bifurcated by Soneillon's blades and partially devoured. Filauria Armathor magically retreats with the dimension door spell to the encampment below to attempt to rally the remaining forces and evacuate the non-combatants. Gatani Armathor and Kaladim Armathor lead Soneillon, and a handful of arcanists to the encampment in pursuit of Filauria.   Gweyir Armathor attempts to organize the remaining fighters of the Armathora within the Pyramid against Kaspian's forces. This resistance is short lived as the Armathora, with no clear leadership, fail to co-ordinate a clear defensive strategy despite their superior numbers. After an arcanist's fireball scatters the group, Kaspian slays Gweyir with a series of magical bolts. The Tenebrans also secure four Armathora captives in this battle who are subsequently sacrificed at the base of Amon's tomb to facilitate the final ritual of Orcus's return.   While half their warriors are slaughtered in the pyramid, Filauria struggles to rally the dazed and disoriented Armathora outside. Tenebrans set tents ablaze while Soneillon effortless butchers non-combatants as she makes her way to Filauria. The final fighting force of the Armathora convenes near the exit of the pyramid to battle the demon. Gatani and Kaladim fire volleys of arrows from the pyramid stairs forcing Filauria to attempt a second retreat. At this time, Kaspian and the remaining Tenebrans join the battle outside the pyramid cutting off both physical and magical avenues of egress for the last of the Armathora.   As the slaughter continues, the Horizon Gate activates signaling the completion of the mission to kill Yeenoghu. Kaspian immediately takes a handful of Tenebrans back into the pyramid to confront returning assault team with the help a newly risen Orcus. Already weakened from their recent battle with Yeenoghu, the assault team immediately attempts to retreat. Estelar Armathor makes his way towards the Horizon Gate but is struck down by Kaspian's magic. Dalbrek Darkhammer is brought down by Tenebran rangers while Ibis Praece briefly holds a frustrated Orcus at bay. Leo Vasilius finally succeeds in activating the Horizon Gate and makes his escape alongside Corfinas Drannor. Quarion Armathor is paralyzed by Kaspian's magic but is carried through the activated Horizon Gate by Ibis after the latter wild shapes into a giant owl.
