Personal history
Prior to his demonic conversion, Orcus was born a human with the name Orcustus. He would later go on to serve as an arcanist serf, during the Elven occupation of Qoyne. By the Qoynish War of Independence he had adopted the name Orcustus Tenebrous. He amassed a large following of both serfs and elves and created an order of necromancers and dark magic users known as the Arcanists of Tenebra. His arcanists did not choose either side during the War of Independence and ultimately resisted assimilation with the newly formed Eternal Empire of Qoyne. This conflict with Empire would ultimately result in Orcustus's death at the hands of the God Emperor.
After his death, his soul journeyed to the Abyss and Orcus began his afterlife as a lowly larva. Orcus proceeded to climb through the demonic ranks over the next several hundred years, going from larva to mane, from mane to dretch, from dretch to rutterkin, from rutterkin to vrock, from vrock to glabrezu, from glabrezu to nalfeshnee, and eventually in the form of a balor.
In 3009 BCE, the Arcanists of Tenebra summoned Orcus to the material plane, where he hunted down and killed an Empyrean and fashioned the Wand of Orcus using his skull and spine. Orcus battled the God Emperor with this new weapon but was ultimately defeated once more and forced to retreat back to Thanatos, his personal realm within the Abyss.
