Splitstone Islands

The Splitstone Islands are populated mainly by halflings, direct descendants of the Afregne who remained somewhat isolated from the rest of Laerdt'nah until they were drawn into the Great Borean War. The culture of the Eyar is based on a sense of collective ownership, of pursuing survival, and of communal education. The Splitstone Islands is guided by a group of Elders, the Gamalloc, which is comprised of the ten oldest halflings on the island and individuals considered to be the most skilled at their craft.

The People of the Splitstone Islands

The people of the Splitstone Islands have sun-weathered skin, dark hair, and are quite rare outside of the Islands themselves. Splitstone has a loose alliance with Brist, so halfings are sometimes seen in Brist and occasionally beyond, the typically only when they are working as fully-trained Druids. The people of Splitstone want to keep their children on the islands, learning and continuing their heritage of working with ice and water, but they are also aware of the draw of the natural magic arts in Brist. There have also been stories of those from Splitstone seeking to explore north, to establish new communities on lands not yet known, but there are more immediate concerns. Splitstone sees very few visitors, but it openly welcomes those that do come and some have even been known to stay and learn from them, drawn by the beauty of the ice.

Indigenous Peoples

The Afregne people were seafaring and hardy, settling on both the Splitstone Islands and Nimb. They were known to have strong magical ties to the earth, able to grow plants in rocks and sheer surfaces in a way that has been lost to the world. The Afregne were also able navigators of ice, able to use their understanding of stone to control ice flows and to build ice structures that have long since melted away. The Afregne did not often interact with any other cultures, but there is some evidence of trade between the Afregne and the Blaenor, after the Blaenor had planted the forests that would become Brist.

The Islands

Savjin Island

Savjin Island is the larger of the four Splitstone Islands (in the Broken Sea to the east of Brist and northeast of Phesunlay) and houses most of the population, despite its often cold landscape and somewhat sparse foliage.
