The Broken Sea

The Broken Sea is the name given to the body of water that expands north and northeast out from the northern coast of the Borean. The Broken Sea is so named because of the Splitstone Islands and because of the frequency of strong storms during the fall and summer deochs. The Broken Sea is bordered on the east and south by the Hag's Mouth and bordered on the west by Nimb.    Very few people from Laerdt'nah have attempted to travel north in the Broken Sea, largely because of the storms in the fair deochs, and because of unpredictable ice formations during the other deochs. The people of the Splitstone Islands are the only ones known to have travelled any distance north, though they have not shared anything of their northern travels with other nations. The people of Brist are content to leave the north well enough alone, but the thought of exploring north and discovering new land has always been enticing for the war-focused Varenval.   The coasts of the Broken Sea along Brist and Varenval are largely rocky and barren, with many of the north's storms having created sheer, eroding cliffs. The only place that is known to have gentler shores are the Splitstone Islands, but those are created and maintained by local magic wielders. The people of the Splitstone Islands are known to fish the waters of the Broken Sea, largely catching preen, smaller whales, seals, and ice squid.

Significant Ports

There are no significant ports on the Broken Sea, as no trading occurs in the north through that body of water. The Splitstone Islands have many ports dotted throughout, and there are three northeast-facing ports in Brist that support travel between Brist and the Splitstone Islands, but they are relatively small and can only handle six-person vessels or smaller.
