As far as gnomes are concerned, being alive is a wonderful thing, and they squeeze every ounce of enjoyment out of their three to five centuries of life. A gnome’s personality is writ large in his or her appearance. A male gnome’s beard, in contrast to his wild hair, is kept carefully trimmed but often styled into curious forks or neat points. A gnome’s clothing, though usually made in modest earth tones, is elaborately decorated with embroidery, embossing, or gleaming jewels. Their homes are well hidden by both clever construction and simple illusions. Gnomes who settle in human lands are commonly gemcutters, engineers, sages, or tinkers. Some human families retain gnome tutors, ensuring that their pupils enjoy a mix of serious learning and delighted enjoyment. A gnome might tutor several generations of a single human family over the course of his or her long life.

Gnomes a small little beings, who make there homes in hilly wooded lands. They often live in small burrows. Theire homes are well hidden by both clever construction and sometimes simple illusions. Those living in the woods, forest gnomes are the most common. But there are also tunnel gnomes. These gnomes burrow deeper, and live more often within the ground. They are a bit more reclusive, and can be found in almost any environment except for the very cold, or the deserts. Speaking of deserts, this does not stop Gnomes either, a specific group has evolved to survive this harsh environment. Often they seek out and protect oasis's, hiding them from the view of those who may seek to plunder or ruin them. They are sometimes known for watching travelers for days, to determine if they may be worthy of visiting an oasis.

Gnomes who settle in human lands are commonly gemcutters, engineers, sages or tinkerers. Some wealthy families may retain gnome tutors. The curious and impulsive gnomes might also take up adventuring as a way to see the world and gather riches in the form of precious gems. They often seek the joy in any situation, often to the annoyance of their adventuring companions.
