The Eldorien Imperium

Structure

The Imperium is a tightly structured burocratic state. The Imperator is, as the ruler of the great empire, the absolute authority within his realm. His rule is aided by the senate which which there is a constant power struggle. There are no clrear rules of inheritence within the imperium, something that the current imperator as well as his father have been trying to change. As such it is the military, the powerful families who decide who rules.   The influence of nobles is dictated by their wealth and the amount of land in their position, as there are no true "nobles" as such in Eldoria, only rich families. There is a definitive hierarchy between nobility within the imperium. The highest of which rule entire provinces in the name of the imperator while the lowest only own small villas or perhaps castles throughout the imperium. However anyone could rise in climb in this hierarchy. A mere farmer could rise to riches and climb his way to the throne of the imperator. There are also important positions at the court of the imperator, such as state treasurer and state marshal.

Culture

Within the Eldorien culture, learning and etiquette are deemed very important. A well dressed and well manered citizen that would gladly die for the imperium is seen as the model man in the public eye. To strive to advance society and civilistaion is ever their goal, especially as they believe themselves to be the center of culture and civilisation. There comes a certain arrogance to their people due to this, although it cannot match the arrogance of the ancient noble bloodlines of the desert.   Being an outsider means to not be able to have certain privilages within their Imperium. Offices in the army and in the goverment may only be gained by true Eldorien citizens, which a foreigner may gain if he shows enough devotion to the Imperium. As time went by more and more people were given Eldorien citizenship.

Assets

The Imperium has always been famous for their impressive architecture as well as their profesional armies. The infrastructure in many of their towns is exceptional to even some of the most ancient and wealthy cities in the south. Eldoria itself rivals even Qais in greatness.   Their Legions, while having fallen from grace when compared to their golden days, remain dangerous. Much of the army is levied forces nowadays like in many other realms. However the highly trained legions, albeit lower in number, still remain as skilled as ever to fight and die for their Imperator.

History

The Eldorien Imperium began with the rise of Imperator Eldorion. It was he who brought his people out of the shadow and into greatness. Statues of him stand in the capital to this day and his name is worn by every citizen of the Imperium, as the empire as well as the capital was named after him.   During his reign many lands were taken by force. More and more realms fell to the overhelming power of his Legions and his great military talent. In just his lifetime he managed to conquer all the lands east of where the Redorien empire stands nowadays. It was in his late 50s that he fell upon the Albien empire fopr the first time. Their dragons proved too strong even for the might of his Legions. War engines were built to attempt to slay them, but it was only a mild difference, at least at first. In time the Albiens were pushed back significantly however, due to the incompetence of their leaders when compared to Eldorion. In the year 544 btf most of what is nowadays Redoria lay under the Eldorien yoke. Later the same year Imperator Eldorion would meet his demise in battle against the Emperor of the Albiens, or more accuratly the dragon he rode upon.   Eldorion's funural was attented by all citizens The city of Eldoria. He was laid to rest with full honors and his son Antonius swore to avenge his father and push the Albiens back even further. And so he did. Imperator Antonius is not remembered as much as his father or his son, but he still took from the Albiens more land, although not as much as he might have hoped. Much of his short reign was a stalemate. His son, Galerion, was much different. He took the lands that are now Goedwig and Orest and later founded his very own city. The great and eternal city, Galerionopoli   For the following years the Imperium was largely stagnant, at least when it came to conquest. Galerionopoli grew and grew, becoming the center of the known world. During the last centuries before year 0 the Veruma faith was getting more and more popular within the imperium. Much of the population was already praying to Veruma, the one true god, at around the year 120 btf. Much of the nobility retained their old faith however, as did the Imperator. That is until the rule of Galerion III. He was not the first Imperator to convert to Veruma, but the third, as before him the grand temple of the gods was already modofied to fit Veruma as well. However, he was the first to attempt rooting out the old gods, causing huge outrage all over the Imperium with both nobles and commoners who still believed in the old gods, in Jupiter and all the others. This caused a great chasm within the Imperium, boiling over in the great civil war.   The fall of Galerionopoli was the biggest catastrophy to come out of the war. In records and memory the day is remembered as the red day.   In the next centuries Veruma would come to burn away most memories of the old gods, except for some naming conventions here and there. Some old lands were taken from time to time. The greatest expanse of the Imperium after the red day has been their modern borders alongside Avilion, who broke of from the Imperium after holding them for merely 30 years.
